It will get much worse for government workers in California and other states. These workers should demand reductions in pension benefits for their retired brethen. The future pension liabilities will crush the state even if everything else is under control.

Looks like it is time for these government workers to request some of their union dues back in the form of relief funds.

This depression will be a lot worse than the 30’s. There was no giant government entitlements to pay or overstuffed government jobs to keep going. As the economy grinds to a halt and the job losses mount there is no way to save it. Face it this will be a total collapse. This is a death spiral with no way out. We will all be hit. As the economy fails the goose laying the golden eggs dies. And it is failing. In six months unemployment will be 20% and climbing. No way out.

At the risk of sounding heartless.

There are far too many government employee who have never experienced the downturn of the economy. Their benefits have expanded exponentially for years.

They, and their liberal cohorts, have voted for increased socialism.

They now have to experience the fruit of their (lack of) labor.

She may have to cut her lawn service

She can spend that extra day to do her own lawn and do other things she pays other people to do ... she might come out even.

California brought this on ourselves.

In our gravy days, the stupid legislator said “more never-ending social programs!” instead of saving for a rainy day.

Well, folks it is Monsoon season — and many of us are leaving the flooded basement.

Gee, you think Cali might have a little more dough, if they weren’t shoveling out $billion$ to feed, house, educate medicate and incarcerate millions of illegal invaders?

including Margo Hattin, 36, who was horrified by the news. Hattin just bought a home on her own.

Ms. Hattin does not appear to be very future oriented. No doubt she was caught flatfooted by forced government cutbacks affecting her paycheck, since she bought a home in Sacramento right in the middle of the worst collapse in houseing values there on record.

I have some sympathy for her plight, but stupid should be painful, otherwise we'll just get more stupidity.

I’m wondering if we’re about to see the states, blue and red, turn on their illegal aliens and give them the boot, out of sheer desperation.

It’s all part of the DemocRATS’ “new direction” America! We all need to get used to it! The party is over. The gravy train has reached the end of the line. The cows have come home to roost! (Det. Frank Drebin). It’s the new path to serfdom. The ‘RATS are going to make people in this country live like people live in impoverished nations all over the world. The “messiah” told us he was going to do this. Remember that speech about us driving our SUVs and ordering Big Macs without first consulting with the UN? Well, here we are...

The state’s income taxes are devastating to the rest of us.

Bindu Kang, 37, a research program analyst in the Medi-Cal area for the Department of Public Health Services, was one of several state workers who greeted details about the furlough plan with resignation.

"There's upheaval, and everything else is doing poorly in the economy, so we cannot live in our bubble and live high on the hog," Kang said. "Like everybody else, we have to cut back and tighten our belts."

Kang was heading home to review her own spending. She may have to cut her lawn service or look for a part-time job to make up for lost income.

Bindu Kang understands.

The CA mess reminds me of the way the media handled the 1995 budget/government shut down by der Slickmeister. Day after day the pubbies were blamed and there were endless film clips of poor, poor government workers.

One commenter there suggested that State workers reduce their withholding to take up some of the slack. I’m thinking that people in the free enterprise sector, whose jobs are shaky, might do the same. Those that KNOW they will be laid off might jack up their withholding — state and federal — to zero. It seems prudent to me. Who knows? There might be a bailout for those who didn’t pay their taxes this year. Things are so crazy I’ll start to believe anything.

On top of everything else, decling income taxes will drive the State and the Feds even deeper in the red. As the song says, “I see a bad moon a’risin’.
