LA-2 , Orleans, Jefferson Parish: In a huge upset win, little known Republican attorney Anh "Joseph" Cao beat nine term and criminally indicted William Jefferson(D). Jefferson had been expected to easily win. Cao becomes the first Vietnamese member of U.S. Congress. LA-4, Shreveport-Bossier City, Sabine Parish, et. al., Western LA, TX/AR border: Republican Dr. John Fleming wins. Fleming was trailing by about 3% early in the election results but came on strong in the end to beat Carmouche(D) by 356 votes. Carmouche has not conceded election recount probably pending. With these results, the 111th U.S. House of Representatives currently stands at 255 Democrats, 178 Republicans, and two elections still officially pending = VA-5: Perriello(D) wins, Goode(R) filed recount - will take 2-4 weeks. So Cold Cash Jefferson goes down in defeat.
Hallelujah. There is justice after all.
Congratulations to Congressman Cao!
“Louisiana voters have now elected the first people of Vietnamese and Indian descent to major elected office in the U.S.”
Great news and they did it without writing phony books about their lives and they didn’t hide their Birth certificates.
It says, as Jefferson himself said when he spoke at the after-party, that very few people in Orleans Parish bothered to vote. He won easily in the primary, when mass numbers of people turned out (which was also the Presidential election on Nov. 4th). But this was a tiny ballot, people were burned out on voting, and they got complacent and didn’t bother to vote. So he lost.
I agree, I’m surprised the dems actually had enough conscience to ditch Jefferson.
No, if that were the case Helena Moreno would have beat him in the democratic runoff election. Just more republicans turned out then democrats is more likely the case.
By 2010....you will see more Latinos in congress as well. I think the day of one-minority concepts are pretty much finished. For the Democrats...this is going to require a complete re-tool of their master strategy.
Oh man you beat me to it. LOL
Any one on a conservative forum like FR who defends Lindsey Gang of 14 Graham friend of any illegal over American laws
is suspect as a RINO or better yet a liberal hiding here.
Yes, Cao will lose in 2010 no matter how well he may perform. Cao will be like the one-termer in Chicago who retired the once invincible Rostenkowski in 1994. As Walter Judd once wrote “tyrants seem invincible until the last five minutes, and then they fall apart.”
I feel the same way.
Obama voters are still in crack pipe party mode.
Conservatives are chomping at the bit to rid the congress of Rats ala 1994.
N.O. East has a strong Vietnamese population that no doubt turned out strongly for Cao.
I still remember watching the 1994 returns and how satisfying it was to cross out Dem districts off of my USA Today red/blue map. Will be interesting to see if we can nationalize the 2010 elections as in 1994. Sadly, we lack a strong personality in Congress this cycle. Hope someone emerges to fill Newt's role.
Oh don’t fool yourself... they are plenty racist against African Americans.

My, what big cajones you have there, newbie.
call em as I see em..nuf said
Looks as if the blacks didn't much turn up to vote like in the Nov 4th election.
Maybe NJ too, Corrine is unpopular. The problem there is to find someone decent to run.
LOL. That is gold there ...
Sigh ...
Before you know it, he's going to become an expert on Trolls as well ...
