"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said in a telephone interview.
On drilling, the federal Bureau of Land Management is opening about 360,000 acres of public land in Utah to oil and gas drilling. Bush administration officials argue that the drilling will not harm sensitive areas; environmentalists oppose it.
"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake."

55 million U.S. Citizens voted against Obama. About 61 million voted for him. How is that on overwhelming mandate?
The MSM is running cover for their hero already.
Notice I didn't say ALL of the lights would be turning on, just some. The ones that think he is going to buy their gas and pay their mortgages are in for a rude awakening. By the time he is done, if we can keep the unemployment rate to 20%, we'll be doing well. His kool-aid drinkers, dense as they are, will eventually begin to get a whiff of the coffee, although they won't fully wake up.
The Gestapo is here alive and well.
I realize the problems you point out. Just don’t assign them to me. I also understand the sarcasm. You need to understand the grammatical person of the prepositions you use if you were not assigning those positions to me. Sounds like we are probably on the same side here.
congress can overturn an eo but this congress wont. but then again no congress ever has
Just by coincidence, This is the 30th anniversary of Jonestown Massacre.............
Here is the Governor’s contact form, maybe he’ll need a little prodding, http://governor.utah.gov/goca/form_comment.html
“I look forward to freezing myself to death in the name of The Messiah.”
Here in northeast Arkansas, where our rural electric cooperative has the highest rates in the state, we have already vowed to keep our thermostat on 50 degrees this winter. It will be “chilly” but we’ve stocked up on fleece and plan on layering. I also have wrapped our water heater in a thermal “blanket” form Lowe’s, and I turn off the breaker each afternoon around 4:30. We can still wash the dinner dishes and get a morning shower before turning the breaker back on. Just doing our part to thwart The One’s plans to bankrupt us, and hoping this plan works.
It turns out that his own side knows that he can’t overturn stem cell research without bending the law. And Podesta should know better.

Not exactly. Congress has 30 days to act on these EOs.
I don’t think congress is going to stand in Barry’s way if he rules by EO but your larger point is taken. Congress could stop them if they wanted.
Wrong ... we can’t protect the innocent unborn if WE are not here
oic.
Sorry. I have in the past posted that the “you” should be interpreted as “y’all” rather than a personal dictum to an individual poster.
I can see that I should have done that here. It was not meant to be personal, and I am sorry to have been ambiguous. I can see how you would be thinking “how did I spit in YOUR soup to have you come on a tear after ME?” I was genuinely confused by your rxn, but now I see that it was my poor choice of pronouns that did it. Sorry about that, and thanks for the gracious reply.
What on earth will we be able to do?
just dam...if I don’t sound like a kook now...but, I tend to agree with you.
The punches are telegraphed.
Environmentalist are living in the past. Drilling for oil and gas is NOT destructive to the land. They need to get out more.
So, Russia and Chavez start their own oil cartel and we stop drilling everywhere.
Detroit is about to fold so we mandate more anti-pollution vehicles.
What’s next?
