Don’t tell GM, they don’t know the way to increase sells is to cut price.

Prices of other things will be coming down shortly too, but of course none will noticed until Obama takes the oath and then it will all be because of him.
We saw all this with Clinton.

I love Wegmens, but we stopped shopping there when realized were were paying nearly $5 for a loaf of italian bread. Guess companies like Wegmens and Starbucks finally noticed that consumers are not willing to pay thru the nose everyday items.

The recession isn’t the reason for the price cuts, it’s drop in fuel prices and presumably eventually in food prices.

Fuel prices are falling to what they were 2 years ago [$1.85-1.95 range locally].

The increased food/commodity prices this year were mainly due to increased fuel, thus transportation, costs.

To remain competitive, store should start dropping prices.

I saw many food items jump from 25-75% locally in the last 8 months. They did seem to stabilize a couple of months ago, but they are still substantially higher than even a year ago.

I did laugh a couple of weeks ago. Went to the Walmart Supercenter. They had some small old, shriveled cantaloupes — marked at $2.68 a piece. No wonder they were shriveled — at that price.

For those who don’t know:

Wegmans is a northeastern grocery store chain featuring stores so large and impressive that area residents will actually take visitors there for sightseeing.

Anyone that has a WinCo grocery store knows about very low prices on almost everything. They can be beat on advertized specials or loss leaders, but are much lower on virtually everything else.

It's like a drug, I tell you. I can't stay off FR for too long at a time, so I will be popping in and out. But, Diana in Wisconsin still has a job as the co-ping mistress. :D

Saw this and had to pass it on.

They have already screwed it up.

Price cuts when no one has money to spend lead a downward spiral of job loss leading to a complete lack of goods. Profits are good, leading to job creation. Competition leads to price cuts when there is choice of goods. When you create money out of nothing, pretty soon, you have nothing.

Our local ALDI store caused this...Wegmans is so over priced, it’s pathetic. I only shop their sales...Summer produce I get at the farmers’ market....The rest from Aldi’s as long as it’s USA.

I love Wegmans grocery stores. The closest one to me is in Syracuse, about an hour away. I grew up in Rochester, NY where Wegmans was a staple. Besides New York State, they’ve got stores in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and I’ve never understood why they’ve never opened any stores farther east in the state than Syracuse.
