CCS Headline News - Superintendent's Response to YouTube
I was shocked when I saw the clip of an interaction between a Cumberland County Schools teacher and her students as posted on YouTube. While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his/her political views into the discussion. Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.
We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.
I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers. Please be assured that the actions exhibited in this video are not consistent with the vision of the CCS. Moreover, the actions of one teacher do not represent the 7000 employees in our organization.
Once the video was brought to my attention, I immediately launched an investigation. Personnel laws prevent me from releasing information regarding individual employees and personnel action taken. I can assure you that upon completion of the investigation, I will take appropriate action.

We need to find inexpensive recording devices that can be easily hidden. Kids need to tape the teachers, and we will out them. Perhaps the new http://www.theobamaresistance.com will do that.
Wow!! This is the first time I have read that. That is the most brilliant idea I have read in a long time.
It will protect both the child AND the teacher. There are countless accusations against teachers every year. With the advent of digital recording media, all could be recorded and stored for a period of time in a very small package. That way, when an accusation arises from either side, there would be a record of what REALLY happened. Keeps everyone honest.
I got the following respone to my email:
We are aware of the video shown on You Tube. It demonstrates the action of one individual which is inconsistent with the values of the district. Our administration is addressing the issue at the school. Our Superintendent has posted a message on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9ta9XKQXgE) and the CCS Homepage at (www.ccs.k12.nc.us). You may want to look at that. Please be assured that we take this seriously and will handle appropriately.
Nice try avoiding the coming lawsuits, Superintendent. That won’t save you and it won’t save the “teacher” in question.
I have two words for that idea —— teachers unions. (Biden would have called that three words.)
I've got you beat by 4 years. Mock election between Ford and Carter...........and I attended a parochial school.
That is exactly the response I hope the school board will take, but I am doubtful it will.
Not so much black as she’s a loon. And the NEA will sweep it under the rug and let it die away.
Now, there are YouTube, digital cameras, surveillance systems - much more talk radio, talk cyber, so many more and newer ways to fight the Marxist matrix.
And we must. Must, as then; must, as now.
I realise the NEA would scream like a cut Comanche, but school boards might be convinced that it would be in their fiscal interest. Protection from lawsuits, and all that.
I can’t believe the child and her parents are ok with what went down!
I read in the Asheville Citizen Times that the child and her parents are ok with it! I tried to post the article here but it won’t let me because the paper is copyright protected or some such crap.
Not in the court of public opinion, and that is where the evidence will hurt them the most.
Nixon & Humphrey!
I agree. I sent the link to a local talk radio host as soon as I saw it. She played it, put up the link & told her listeners to send her stories like it.
There are resources available for those coming from the conservative side of things....

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. A Fayetteville teacher whose classroom comments about John McCain drew the ire of viewers who saw the remarks on YouTube says she has received a disciplinary letter.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that Diatha Harris also said an internal investigation cleared her of violating state law or Cumberland County Board of Education policy.
[snip]
Harris downplayed the significance of the written reprimand from Harrison. She has not made the letter public, and remains a teacher at the school.

In other words, once the heat died down the school district did nothing.
And now you know the rest of the story.
Sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.
