CCS Headline News - Superintendent's Response to YouTube
I was shocked when I saw the clip of an interaction between a Cumberland County Schools teacher and her students as posted on YouTube. While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his/her political views into the discussion. Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.
We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.
I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers. Please be assured that the actions exhibited in this video are not consistent with the vision of the CCS. Moreover, the actions of one teacher do not represent the 7000 employees in our organization.
Once the video was brought to my attention, I immediately launched an investigation. Personnel laws prevent me from releasing information regarding individual employees and personnel action taken. I can assure you that upon completion of the investigation, I will take appropriate action.
Dr. William Harrison CCS' Superintendent
BB, that would be correct IF they thought they were doing something wrong. This video shows quite clearly she thought she was doing the right thing and was quite proud of herself. In other words she is too stupid to understand how wrong this really was. On that basis alone she ought never be allowed to “teach” children again.
YouTube link?
Also disturbing is that the Super (if he is to be believed) didn't find out about this from the students or parent complaints, but from a youtube video. If that is true, then I'm afraid the kids have just become accustomed to sitting silently waiting for the tirades to be over. They then become more of the mind numbed sheeple.
If a high-school kid browbeat or bullied another kid like this, he'd be suspended during prom week and probably lose his chance at a driver's license for a year. They know how to hit the kids where it hurts. Why not imbeciles like this who behave far worse?
I wouldn't say that. The general consensus is they are angry--angry at the hypocrisy, angry at the system. That's why the drop out rate is so high and community colleges are offering high school completion, distance learning, and GED programs. Some students stay long enough to complete their driver's education program and then drop out.
"But shes black."
Yup. It'll all be swept under the rug and we'll be told that we should learn from this dear woman's experiences. It was slavery that made her say these things.
Exactly. She thought what she was doing with the camera running was okay. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
When my sons came to me with similar situations, they always begged me not to call the school. They were always afraid that nothing was going to be done & the teacher would retaliate. Sitting quietly & taking it was preferred to potential blow back. It was almost like they had Stockholm Syndrome. If the students aren’t talking, how is anyone gonna know?
Well, we need to launch the idea of kids with cell phones getting clips of this crap. It can then be put on YouTube anonymously. The superintendent will get the message very quickly.
I live close to MPS (Milwaukee Public Schools) & they tried to ban cell phones, because students were using them to get more people on their side to come to every single rumble. Imagine parents showing up to fight with students & other parents.
I’m actually pleasantly surprised to see the superintendent’s strong, unequivocal disapproval regarding the actions of this teacher, as well as his words of support for the military.
I’ve heard of parents (of the intelligence variety) sending their children into school wired with high-tech bugs. Otherwise, without taped evidence they could take to the District, the teacher would deny it and yes, the student would eventually be victimized.
I HOPE THAT a Freeper near the scene of this crime will keep tabs on this, and let us know what the promised “appropriate” action turns out to be. We have reason to suspect that the NEA will not permit any punitive remedy.
they can put her in charge of “no lefty left behind.”
YOUTUBE'S TIED; USDOJ FILES MASSIVE COPYRIGHT SUIT
I'm not joking.
How long ago? Can you get pictures of the teacher and the classroom? I believe that they need a YouTube shoved you know where.
