Warming up a crowd in North Carolina Saturday, Republican Rep. Robin Hayes offered the diagnosis that liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.
His remarks came shortly after he had said he would make sure we dont say something stupid, make sure we dont say something we dont mean.
Hayes had followed Rep. Patrick McHenry, also a North Carolina Republican, who laid out the choice between McCain and Obama.
Its like black and white, yelled someone from the crowd.

Update: Hayes spokeswoman, Amanda Little, says that Hayes absolutely denies making the comments that appear in the Observer article. She noted that other national reporters were at the event and didn't pick up on what the Observer reported.
The Crypt called the Observer reporter in question, Jason Horowitz, and he said he stands firmly by his reporting. "I was there. Thats what I heard. I was taking notes while he was talking," said Horowitz.
He said that the national media couldn't have picked up on the comment because they had yet to arrive at the event. "I wasn't on the plane," said Horowitz, who explained that he arrived before the national media. "I dont know if they were aware the national press wasnt there, but they were staying stuff."
Horowitz said he isn't concerned about being proven wrong because local reporters and camera crews were there, so someone must have caught the comment. "There were local reporters there. There were sticks up," he said.
Little pointed to a local Independent Tribune article that does not reference Hayes making derogatory comments about liberals. The Crypt left a message with the author's article, Josh Lanier, and will update this post when we hear back.
In the meantime, if you were at the rally and heard Hayes speak, write rgrim@politico.com and let us know what you heard.
Update 2: "I can guarantee that he said that," local reporter Josh Lanier, who was at the event, tells The Crypt. "I didnt get the 100 percent exact quote but it was something along the lines of 'liberals hate Americapeople who work hard, achieve, love God.' Thats pretty much exactly what he said but I didnt get it exactly, which is why I didnt use it."
Christopher Schuler, who also said he attended the event, sent this e-mail into the The Crypt: "I was at the arena Saturday morning in Concord, and heard Rep. Hayes say it. It was around 10:30 am. Taken back by it at first, but the entire crowd was loving it."
Schuler appears to be very close on the timing. Check out this contemporaneous Twit, posted on Saturday at 10:41.
We suppose that means Sara Gregory of the Daily Tar Heel gets the scoop, though she ended up not mentioning it in her write-up of the event. (Which she later Twittered as a regret.)
And thanks to local blogger Betsy Muse who helped us track this down. The Crypt considers the case closed, but if anybody has full audio of the event, please send it in.
Update 3: Hayes spokeswoman Little is still denying it and accuses The Crypt of "irresponsible journalism."
Meanwhile, local reporter Lisa Miller of WFAE has audio, which she's sending to The Crypt and which we'll post when we get it. She relistened to the audio and says the exact quote is: Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God.
Update 4: Now the case is really, really closed. Here's the audio confirmation. We'll update with Hayes' reaction when it comes in
Editor's Note - Comments that include inappopriate or offensive language will be deleted. Thanks, John Bresnahan
It’s funny how when the truth is expressed about the left, it’s controversial.
Uh, yes they do hate us.
There are two Americas. Traditional vs. Liberal.
Unfortunately, some of the “traditional” voters don’t know it yet.
Is this the focus of your posting this, BGHater?
And the problem is? Oh! I guess it's a problem when the truth is told about libs. Last I heard, telling the truth isn't illegal or anything, yet.
Update: Hayes spokeswoman, Amanda Little, says that Hayes absolutely denies making the comments that appear in the Observer article.
That's a shame, he shoulda stood up and proudly stood by it. Oh wait, I found it down on page 78 para 3 of the republican playbook, "never stand up to or confront liberals with the truth of their actions"
One more reason why "republican" politicians suck big ones.
I support the statements of Hayes and Bachmann. Are you trying to clown my post saying it should not be posted?
Ronald Reagan basically said, There are Americans and then there are Liberals.
Check out that Obama-Ayers picture under your article. Tell me if Ayers doesn’t look like what John Lennon would have looked like now if he were still around.
America stands for freedom. (especially individual liberty)
Modern liberalism is anti freedom. (collectivism)
Therefore liberals are anti American.
They do hate America. What’s wrong with what Representative Hayes said?
The thing about liberals is they spend most of their time trying to trick Americans into believing they don’t.
Sure they don’t hate America, geographically. They want the land just not the culture, religion, patriotism, the Constitution, etc...
So to say liberals hate America is sorta wrong. They hate Americanism.
Hey, libs, the Truth will set you free!
I’m trying to make sense of the Politico article. Who or what are the Observer, Crypt and HT Progress?
Make that HT ThinkProgress.
Thinks HT = Hat Tip
>>>Its like black and white, yelled someone from the crowd. <<<
Just like the invisible guy shouting insults at the Sarah Palin rally in Scranton. What b*llsh*t.
OK, I’m through being angry. Now I’m really angry.
I’m at the point where I’m starting to think that we just need to do what the left does and make up stuff about the Democrats and the left. Create an endless barrage of falsehoods about their esteemed elites, when we’re called on it, go after those who call us out with falsehoods and lies. Write an article about an Obama rally in which he says Stalin was a good man who just didn’t make good decisions. Create a make-believe Obama supporter calling for national socialism. Photoshop Biden picking his nose. Photoshop people at an Obama rally with signs calling for death to conservatives, or Limbaugh, or white people, or Christians. Accuse Obama of calling out “Allah akbar” when leaving a rally. And on and on. All of these ideas, by the way, offends my sense of decency and honor, but we’re not dealing with honorable and decent people.
um... no.
Just tell the truth about them. Unapologetically, ruthlessly, and without reservation.
If you want to anger a conservative, lie about him,
if you want to anger a liberal, tell the truth.

Yeah... yeah... I’ll take a deep breath. I just hate the other side consistently lying and getting away with it.
Uh, no one was lying. He did say that, they have it on tape, and he has apologized.
