“Animal Liberation Front frees animals, destroys breeding records in Kaysville and South Jordan”
By Dawn House
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 09/28/2008 03:26:04 AM MDT
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The attack last week on a Kaysville farm that freed 6,000 minks was the second recent raid in Utah claimed by a shadowy animal rights group and marks the resurgence of such crimes after a long lull.
Utah members of the Animal Liberation Front claimed responsibility for the Sept. 21 raid and another on Aug. 19 in South Jordan in which breeding records were destroyed and 800 pens opened.
The attacks are a blow to a big industry in Utah.”

“Enemy Engagements Decrease for Marines in Afghanistan”
By Navy Seaman William Selby
Special to American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 17, 2008 As the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment continues to enhance security in Afghanistan, Marines there are experiencing decreased enemy engagements, the battalions commander said yesterday.
Weve killed or captured a lot of the [Talibans] leadership, U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Richard Hall, commander of Task Force 2D Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, told bloggers during a teleconference.
Other possible reasons Hall cited for fewer engagements include the recent Muslim holiday of Ramadan, the beginning of winter in Afghanistan and the enhanced efforts of the Afghan National Police.
Weve now trained over 800 Afghan National Police and have placed them in various districts, he said.

“Female suicide bomber detonates outside IP checkpoint, marks 2nd time IPs thwart bombers”
Multi-National Division North PAO
BALAD CITY, Iraq
I’ve been trying to figure out the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan - as there is a lot of clutter out there.
First you have some of the military leaderships saying we are losing - yet the Taliban/AQ have failed to do much again this year. Just recently, they tried another large scale attack and got their clocks cleaned.
Pakistan is attacking rogue tribes in the Waziristan and adjacent regions - and winning, but is unwilling to go for the jugular.
We have taken the initiative in Predator strikes in Pakistan border regions - with results.
Now this “agreement” - doesn’t make sense.

OPINION:
Well, I can understand what you are saying.
Just when progress is being made, it’s time to slow down for peace agreements.
War on terror makes sense to me.
Jihad and making deals with “jihadis” who in truth, are losing and are losers; makes no sense to me.

LittleBigPlanets little expressions cause big problems
Sony has suffered a blow to its plans for a strong PlayStation 3 showing this holiday season with a delay to one of its marquee games.
LittleBigPlanet has been released to reviewers, but retail copies are now being held back while a part of the soundtrack considered of possible offence to Muslims is changed.
In a statement, Sony said it had been brought to its attention that one of the background music tracks contained two expressions that could be found in the Quran.
It said it was rectifying the situation and apologised for any offence it might have caused.

UNION-TRIBUNE EDITORIAL
“A genuine threat
ACORN targets a weakness in democracy”
October 18, 2008
To end the many obstacles Southern states put up before African-American voters as late as the 1960s, Congress worked for decades to make voting much easier.
EDITORIAL SNIPPET: “These efforts had a hugely positive effect until the 1993 motor voter law. This measure and some related laws made registration so easy and so difficult to verify because of a lack of resources and time that they created nothing less than a structural weakness in American democracy.
This election year, we’re seeing a determined, well-funded effort to exploit this weakness, led by ACORN the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Using corporate, partisan and taxpayer grants, the nonprofit group has spent $35 million this year to register 1.3 million people in 21 states. But it’s highly likely that hundreds of thousands of these registrations are bogus. That’s because ACORN relies on canvassers who appear to be paid based on how many signatures they get an invitation to fraud and because ACORN as an institution appears to collectively think such fraud is tolerable in the name of social justice.”
