McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

I agree, but the obvious problem as I see it right now is the MSM and how they might spin it all. The MSM has no shame, no integrity, and no line they will not cross/or wont.

Plenty of trolls on the thread tol. Interesting from McCain though, shows he can set priorities and is flexible.

Ding Dong, OTOH, is like a deer in the headlights. Since we’re hearing from Bush tonight, and have heard from Bernanke and Paulsen today, this is hardly an unknown or minor concern for the nation.

Fox News reporting Harry Reid called McCain and told him he wouldn’t be helpful in Washington and isn’t needed there. Surprise, surprise.

Good to see you BTW.

I’m amazed that Barry made that statement willingly, and on national TV. The symbolism couldn’t be more clear - my campaign is more important than any economic crisis.

Nancy Pfotenhauer, McCain’s Senior Policy Advisor said that Obama called this morning, but never advised them of the topic he wanted to discuss...just that he wanted to talk to McCain.

I think this point needs to be repeated....Obama called McCain this morning, but NEVER SPOKE TO McCAIN. McCain called Obama later in the afternoon, spoke to Obama, and informed him of his decision to suspend the campaign and that he thought it might be a good idea to delay the debate (not cancel - delay).

Que “Ain’t no mountain high enough”!

Exactly. Which brings us back to the celebrity ads and parting of the waters... except this time it's a glacier or mountain

With BO holding his ears out "Hello?"

"If you need me, call me." What ammo.

Because they have been so fair up until this point?

Friend, they did not have the GOP Senate at 20% until Eelction eve 2006.

You proved my point, they are a snapshot in time, but your statements suggested they were always right at all intervals.

Fine. Let them anger 60,000,000 people over 55...

ZeroBama has already angered the 20,000,000 Americans with disabilities....we're up to 80,000,000 McCain voters and still rising!

“Unless we delay the election, the campaign needs to go on.”

Oh, please. Obama has been campaigning for 20 months. A few days of doing the job he was elected to do (not that he has done that in 2 years) would be rather refreshing.

“I personally don’t see the benefit of calling additional attention to this financial situation, and I don’t think McCain should be trying to rush it along.”

“Want to give us some evidence that you have the remotest clue about what is going on that allows you to have that opinion. Educate us.”

Why don’t you give us some indication that you have the remotest clue what is going on that allows you to respond to my post as you did? Educate us.

If you are able, you’ll realize my response is the corollary of your presumptuous post.

Screw you, Harry!! The people of Arizona have the right to have their representation there. Too bad the people of Illinois and Delaware won’t be getting the same.
