Young voters, solidly behind Obama, registering in droves
Arizona Republic | September 24, 2008 | Anne Ryman

The Arizona Republic is a Gannett rag (owners of the ultra-liberal USA Today) -- so we can't even excerpt the article.

However, you can guess the gist of the piece from the headline, and you read the story itself here.

Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be- I actually read the bleeding thing...

Problem is, while "the Yute Vote" has been bandied about as some new, exciting thing since at least 1968 ( my rusty old memory ), the Yutes have a sorry history of actually turning out, and casting a ballot.

This time? Who knows- it's the screwiest election I can ever recall seeing, and I go back to Truman...

This is because they aren’t teaching the downfalls of socialism or communism any more in schools. The kids really don’t know what they are voting for. The Republican party needs to educate people on what a conservative is. What it means. Once you do that, you’ve got many of them.

That’s what happened to me. I’m 37. I voted for Clinton his first term. Not until 1/2 way through his first term did I learn what a Republican actually was. I always thought they were for the rich and powerful and Dems were for the little guy.

That’s what the young people today think too. We need to educate them. Once I was turned, I was NEVER going back.

Oh, and how did I get turned? I was working the overnight shift and when I would go to break to smoke in my car the only thing on the radio was a replay of Rush from the previous day. I got curious and listened. He made a LOT of sense. I don’t listen to him much anymore, so I don’t know if he still goes on his rants about “what a conservative is”.

If I had never heard that, I might still be a Dem and an idiot!

Despite overhyped expectations, these kids NEVER vote and ALWAYS let the Rats down. Remember Kerry’s “Rock the Vote” drive and how it fizzled on election day, and the “Deaniacs,” before that.

But this year especially, Republicans should be tracking the college students who vote once in the state where they attend school and then absentee at home. It happened a lot (Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan) in 2004. With the increased enthusiasm for Obama, I suspect this is going to be a very popular fraud in the election.

The last time I heard about the Arizona Republic it was part of the Pulliam chain, along with the Indianapolis News. The Pulliam papers were conservative, and the heir of the papers was Dan Quayle. Guess he was too smart to stay in that business.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I did the same back in ‘92 (I’m 36). I grew up thinking the same things about the Democrats (add in that they were “for the minorities” and Republicans are “racist”, etc... etc...). I’m ashamed that I believed the propaganda back then, but I’m grateful that I realized the error of my thinking - especially before my children were old enough to understand what was going on, and before I imparted the propaganda to them!

It’s not just about the evils of socialism that are not being taught to our younger generations. They aren’t even learning about the Constitution, and why it is important!

You want to hear a VERY scary statistic? Approx. 40% of Americans (71% of Obama Supporters) do not believe that the Supreme Court should make decisions based upon what is written in the Constitution, but instead should base their decisions on some “sense of fairness”. (Rasmussen Poll published results on Sept. 5th re: The Supreme Court).

That 71% of Obama supporters was in comparison to 18% of McCain supporters on the same question. There is a VAST difference there, and too large of a difference to be some kind of “fluke”. The truth is - Obama supporters by and large do NOT believe the Constitution is the highest law in the land! And, if that’s the case, then what is going to happen when the Democrats keep pushing for more and more socialist programs? These people have NO CLUE! They talk a good game about “rights”, their rhetoric is good, but in reality they mean NOTHING they say!

Good freakin' grief. Yes, that is scary.

Americans, for the most part, are stupid when it comes to civics. I work with a lot of immigrants. Most of them know MORE about our country and government than the home-grown Americans I work with.

People just don’t care anymore. They’ve had it too easy and frankly, it bores them. They’d rather watch Survivor and American Idol than learn what is going on in the country, or for that matter, the world.

And the Vietnames immigants I work with are mostly Republicans. They came here during or right after the war and know all too well what the left is capable of. I was surprised to learn that after talking to many of them.

I always thought they were for the rich and powerful and Dems were for the little guy.

I was in my forties when I realized that my Liberal party was actually the party of lies and smears.

I watched almost all of the Clarence Thomas hearings.

It was painfully obvious that the Democrats, who talked so protectively about the concept of "privacy," felt no guilt about mentioning Thomas's "video-viewing" preferences.

And the media's summaries of the sessions were unrealistic distortions of the sessions I had just viewed.

I couldn't stomach belonging to a party which manufactured smears and lies, and depended on the press to spread them.

Our daughter was excited about voting for “W” when she turned eighteen. The night before the election, one of her professors showed M. Moore’s film Ferenheit 911. She came home and announced she was voting for Gore. There was a lot of educating that evening at home, and as far as we know she voted for “W”. . .These college kids get some real misinformation from the left leaning professors.

As the young ‘uns get older, reality about life sets in. It happened to me too. McGovern and Carter helped me see the errors of my way.

I won't read the article. I do have some anecdotal evidence about young people these days. In Minnesota I have seen more young people engaging in the process than at any other time in my life (I was old enough to care in 1964). The thing of it is is they are engaging tooth and nail in the Republican works.

I believe it to be a residual of the Ron Paul efforts in Minnesota. So far, even though Paul fizzled, the young crowd is still engaged. If that enthusiasm remains, I will conclude that Paul, whom I did not support, truly accomplished something.

Anyway, if the phenomenon is national, the Arizona Republic may be half right and engaging half way in wishful thinking. We will see in about six weeks.

Yeah, I sure do. There was a time when the deomcratic party was the party of people like me. No more.

It’s kind of funny because I had heard enough trash about Rush Limbaugh from my college professors and my family that I thought the guy had horns growing out the side of his head. Then, I actually listened to Rush. I’ve never gone back. Like Ronald Reagan, the deomcratic party left me in its run to socialism. I’m a conservative and proud of it.
