ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Thus, bombarded by images of sex and told by her school that sex before marriage is OK, she made a teenage mistake.

So basically you're saying that it's not her fault?

And, why were her parents not trying to control the influences on her, coming from school and from the outside "hedonistic" world? And, if they were, why did they fail?

“Maybe she’ll miss out on “getting drunk ‘till you puke” college parties, but you know what? Looking back, some of those are fun memories, but if I could trade those memories for a family right now, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”

I know exactly what you mean.

You don't have the foggiest clue!

Nor do I claim to know how she feels right now.

I agree with all of you - for Bristol to have done this was wrong. It was immoral. She sinned.

I’m still asking what the correct response to this is for the mom and for her family?

By extension, what is the most moral response for McCain?

I’m NOT OK with this one little bit. That's it, if, YOU'RE not ok with this, then it is definitely a deal breaker with the rest of the country!

That’s right. And Palin and her husband no doubt very carefully raised their daughter with strict Christian values, so it is in no way due to them. The fact that she is getting married is THE perfect example of Family Values! This will HELP Palin as a candidate.

If this was a Democrat, their daughter would be pregnant and they might try to “help” the 17 yr old by getting her an abortion! Certainly the two kids marrying each other so that they can have a baby in 4 months is WAY preferable. And they will have the support of Bristol’s mom, who in spite of being Vice-President and having a 4 month old Down’s child herself, is reported to be an excellent multi-tasker.

If this were a Democrat candidate, her daughter’s teen pregnancy could be blamed on her and her daughter’s non-existent values. Not having values, the way Dems do, or just thinking that it’s government’s responsibility to teach them values. In this case, because she is a Christian, we must treat her with respect and forgiveness.

Why can’t the Dems understand that these things happen because of youth, hormones, and the human tendency to make mistakes?

I think it will be great to have two little babies right on the dais at the inaugural. Much cuter than Obama’s little girls.

The world adds 57 million people a year and will continue to do so until at least 2050. Who decides what is dysgenic?

My working definition of dysgenic is: when net tax payers are being out-bred by tax consumers, then that is dysgenic. This will last until the industrialized world can no longer sustain itself, as you need a certain minimum percentage of intelligent ( >= 120 IQ) people to keep things running

I welcome all the young Palins

I am not the one twisting words. You started babbling about your right to post here and that I claimed to know you.

Seems to me you and your holier than thou group of 5-7 are the only ones making this an issue.

Diversion and division on FR? Yes, prior to Palin. Once Palin was announced, no more.

Seems YOU and your tiny group are the ones with the problem.

"And I nothing further to say to somebody as silly as you."

Typical response from one who has no merit to their opinion.

No one is saying it’s “OKAY”. It’s simply irrelevant to this election. I want to know what Palin thinks about policy. Most of the self righteous people here have no idea what there own kids are up to, no matter how ‘involved’ they think they are. When someone comes up with a way to keep a 17 year old from being horny, then there is a discussion worth having.

The only good thing about this is that it is a shocking reminder for parents to sit down and talk to your kids.

Yes it is a good reminder, but it really isn't that shocking when more than one in three children in this country is born out-of-wedlock (which hopefully won't happen to this child since Bristol Palin and the father intend to marry).

Tell them despite what they read on Free Republic having sex and getting pregnant is NOT OK. It is WRONG.

Yes, and while your at it be sure to tell them that abortion is infinitely more wrong. Hateful diatribes from people like you might easily cause them the think abortion is a better option since it would save them from your vengeful wrath.

And tell them to try to have better judgement [sic] than John McCain.

Sure, the children of all potential vice-presidential running mates need to be sinless...

This will hurt him and let in BO.

Only if enough of you faux-righteous hyperventilate yourselves into unconsciousness over it. Honestly, I doubt any of you pseudo-trolls would have voted for McCain anyway.

He is an egotist of terrible proportions.

Hypocrisy, thy screen name is Sunnyflorida!

My favorite quote of the last few days is “Alaska is littered with the bodies of politicians who underestimated Sarah Palin.”

Lets not count any of us Freepers in a crowd such as this...

Oh please, Bristol went to public schools—and was raised in the age of the Internet.

You probably shouldn’t vote for McCain now. Would totally understand if you had to sit this one out. Parents should put their teenagers under lock and key. This is just too embarrassing and rarely happens in the real world. So, so ashamed that this happened to our side. If only Gov Palin could be more like Senator Obama who is on record for supporting his girls’ right to kill their baby if it comes too early.

I think it’s hilarious that the Democrats who have no morality and will answer to no one, point out every foible in their political enemies.

This is a personal tragedy for this family. No one wants a son or daughter to be part of a pregnancy before marriage, but the Palins practice what they preach. They should be applauded and affirmed.

Only modern day pharisees would point fingers and puff their chests out at their own virtue and morality.

However, the fact that their underage daughter is now pregnant opens up all sorts of questions about whether Gov. Palin is properly balancing her pursuit of a career in government and her responsibilities to her family, including instilling values such as "you can get pregnant AFTER marriage" in her children

Well, you said would not suggest, but then proceed to speculate on a possible contributing factor for Bristol becoming pregnant.

Ultimately, you weigh whether or not she is qualified on balancing work and family, as do we all. I'm satisfied with her decision to run. It's no different that any President or VP that has had to deal with issues concerning their children. Of course, a major difference now from perhaps 30-40 years ago is that the children are now fair game for media scrutiny.

“And, why were her parents not trying to control the influences on her, coming from school and from the outside “hedonistic” world?”

Who says they aren’t?

“And, if they were, why did they fail?”

Who says they failed? She’s marrying the father and they’re having the baby. WIN-WIN!
