A lot of them come to Texas (especially the Houston area) b/c they have family here.

This could be Jindal’s chance to shine. The libs want to hang Katrina around the GOP’s neck forever. They want us queezy every time a storm starts brewing in the Gulf, but this is an opportunity to undo that. Imagine a split screen with Republican governor Bobby Jindal handling the situation. We’re winning the war in Iraq, the economy grew at 3.3%, the oil issue is big/bad for the dems, and McCain has just made a great VP choice. An effective response to Gustov could be the great big cherry on top of the general reversal of fortune that’s killing the Dems right now.

I’ve had a bad feeling about this storm ever since it formed.

Check out the developing storms off the coast of Africa on NOAA. I know its still extremely early to tell if they will continue to develop or even make landfall but one of the bad boys is already getting more and more powerful with each weather update.

Has Sean Penn weighed in yet on what we should do? I don’t think I can move an inch without his advice :-)

As I read the location of Gustav it has yet to pass over the westernmost end of Cuba. That will slow it down.

As I read the wind probability tables, the closer to the mainland that Gustav gets, the SLOWER its winds become all the way down to Cat I range or so by Tuesday..

What am I reading wrong???

What a good graphic. It is amazing they let those go unused.

I think, it is likely that Gustav will weaken as it approaches the coast... the water there is just not as warm.

But, it’s still likely to be a strong 2 or week 3 when it hits.. The table show it being a 1 just AFTER it makes landfall.

However, much depends on the amount of shear... if the structure is solid, there’s enough heat in the GOM to support a 3/4.

no doubt... some of the left over from Katrina! But, still... they may just be running INTO the storm, instead of away from it...

Just get inland a few miles, at higher elevation... and, ride it out. That was always my plan.

People in NOrth Houston should be PROHIBITED from evacuating... they just clog up the roads for no reason.

The GOP is not responsible for hurricanes, or what route they take.

Bad news for people is good news to the Democrats.

I really don’t care what the Democrats say about anything. We’re at least as intelligent as they are. Let’s “keep our eyes on the prize”, and keep working to defeat these clowns.

I didn’t get the news that the Bush/Cheney weather machine broke. How sad for the cruel heartless conservatives. Perhaps we can chip in and have it repaired for them.

Probably, If the hurricane hurts the GOP it isn’t the fault of the weather. When the GOP stops relying on good PR from an MSM that hates it, choosing instead good, conservative policy and leadership, things like this will cease to matter.

One good thing about Avery Island is that it is a Salt Dome.

That means it is a high point in South Louisiana. It is surrounded by very low lying land, and the road to it might be flooded, but hopefully the pepper crop and factory will not be hurt by salt water by a storm surge...

Interstate 49 is probably a better way out of South Central Texas than I-10. From Southeast Louisiana there are two Northward Interstates Interstate 55 and I believe it is I-57.

They should have started in the 1980's to widen I-10 to 3 lanes on each side from where it begins in Florida to San Antonio...
