One good thing about Avery Island is that it is a Salt Dome.
That means it is a high point in South Louisiana. It is surrounded by very low lying land, and the road to it might be flooded, but hopefully the pepper crop and factory will not be hurt by salt water by a storm surge...

From 1980. I remember that Time Magazine had a great photo (I couldn't find the Time photo) of what happened at Lake Peigneur
