TROPICAL STORM GUSTAV BECOMES A HURRICANE IN THE CARIBBEAN SOUTHEAST OF HAITI-U.S. NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER
(Excerpt) Read more at alertnet.org ...
Yeah, Jeb Bush had no business letting that hurricane get past Florida in the first place...
If nothing else, it will give the MSM an excuse to focus on something besides the Republican convention.
No matter where you live, gas up your buggy early this weekend!
I’d like to take this time to remind the local politicians of New Orleans & the rest of Southern Louisiana the following hurricane tips:
1. Please park the buses that will be used in an evacuation in elevated area and in an area that is NOT in a flood zone.
2. It appears that giving many of your citizens 5 days notice that a killer hurricane is not enough notice. Therefore all attempts should be given to give them at least 7 days notice. I know this still may not be enough time either and you can still blame the Bush Administration for lack of early notification.
3. If your area does flood don’t just stand there waiting for someone to come help you. Take a look at how your neighbors to the north handled their flooding earlier this year and get off your ass and throw sand-bags or help your next door neighbor.
4. Since none of you will listen to the first 3 tips please secure an axe so your can bust thru your roof from your attic. Also- purchase a large bed sheet and a spray can so you can spray paint “SAVE US” on it and wave it in front of CNN & MSNBC’s cameras for all of us to see.
Damn. All those billions of dollars wasted on N.O.
Why didn’t George Bush use his weather machine to make it hit Denver? You know he hates black people. It could have been a perfect storm!
This thing could hit Galveston as easily as it could Pensacola. Then they would be stranded on a barrier island.
Hal, is Naughtinurse still postin on Hurricanes.
I can only hope! I don't wish this thing on anybody but I don't want it.
I live just inside TX-- west of the L in LA on the map.
make sure you book Nagin a room on at least the 30’th floor of some fancy hotel.
It’s the way God wants it to be!
I think this is going to be the most important hurricane of this year. How it acts could be very indicative of the next two months.
"The GFDL is the fastest, bringing Gustav to New Orleans on Sunday afternoon. This is a plausible forecast, but at this point, virtually any point along the Gulf Coast has a roughly equal chance of a direct hit by Gustav.
"Which set of model should we trust? I plotted up the errors for some of the computer model forecasts made during Fay. While Fay was over Hispaniola and Cuba, the GFDL model made the best track forecasts, among the four main models used by NHC: GFS, GFDL, NOGAPS, and UKMET. This makes me more inclined to trust the GFDL model's forecasts for Gustav, since Fay and Gustav are similar storms."

If so, I'm going to be watching to see if the dastardly Dems try to impede Jindal's evacuation and rescue efforts. They will try to use this against the Repubs....again. Roll the dice, and good luck. We could use the remnants in AZ, if it decides to drift this way.
We got Rita 3 weeks after K. hit NOLA...and had to evacuate for a month. Had a tree on the house...hope not to go thru that again.
I don’t think anyone is SE LA is going to try to impede anything. I’ve been on several boards focusing on that area, and they’re all scared to death. If anything screws up, it won’t be because somebody’s trying to score political points.
is it time for a live thread?
Over the years, I'd seen that every time N.O. was threatened, the media would be out there interviewing many people with that "This is my home, I'm riding it out" mentality. I wonder if there is still a significant number of them.
A major hurricane will strip the RNC of adequate coverage. It won’t be as good as the ‘Rats are getting right now. This is because a major hurricane takes priority.
That means all lanes of traffic will be headed in only one direction -- north, away from the Coast.
If you recall, Mississippi's Governor, Hailey Barbour had his act together prior to Katrina hitting ashore in Mississippi three years ago..
That being the case ,if I were these guys in NO I would still cancel the Gay Pride festival and parade. Seems that it was along about this time they were having it just before Katrina hit. Gives you pause for thought..
