A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

The Sign
Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill. —Philippians 1:15

A pastor friend told me about a sign he had seen in front of a neighborhood church. Instead of just advertising the congregation’s own time of worship, the sign also listed the schedule for two other churches that met at different times in the same small town. Interestingly, my friend didn’t think this was impractical or foolish. Instead, he imagined what it must do for a church to put such unselfishness at the heart of everything it did!

Whether it is a good idea to advertise the worship times of other churches is a matter of opinion. But one thing is certain—the Spirit of Christ is not found in a spirit of envy and self-serving competition. The generosity and goodwill that Paul expressed toward self-serving church leaders is a mark of the authentic Christian spirit (Phil. 1:14-18). This Christlike attitude lines up with the absence of spiritual competition James called for in his epistle (James 3:14-17).

Churches ought to be concerned about building their congregations. But beware of setting the bar too low by worrying about numbers. The wisdom and grace of Christ are not necessarily found in conventional wisdom. Good judgment often requires that we perform counter-intuitive acts of unselfishness that reflect Jesus’ life in us.

More like the Master I would live and grow,
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be. —Gabriel

Nothing is more pleasing to God than self-sacrifice that grows out of obedience.

The base's property, on Singing River Island in the Mississippi Sound at the mouth of the Singing River, was formally transferred to the Mississippi Secretary of State's office July 9, 2007.

LOL! When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, my Daddy used to go shrimping out there. Back then, it was known as the Mud Lumps. Good shrimping, too!

I have three siblings living in P'goula now! My youngest sister works for one of the companies that take the new boats out on Sea Trials, my just younger sister works for Jackson County in the court system, and my older brother just moved back to the coast after having been away since Katrina, and moved three doors down from my just younger sister! He works for MDOT, but many moons ago, he used to work for NOAA out of the port area.

Pascagoula got slammed by Katrina; there was 6' of water in the downtown area, and every police car was ruined, because they were all called in at the height of the storm and dutifully parked right outside headquarters. Ruh, roh! They didn't even get that much water in Camille in the late 60's, Fred in the late 70's, or Ellen, I think it was, in the early 80's, and those last two drew a bead on Pascagoula. The town looks like it's trying hard to come back, though, which is always good!
