LOL! When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, my Daddy used to go shrimping out there. Back then, it was known as the Mud Lumps. Good shrimping, too!
I have three siblings living in P'goula now! My youngest sister works for one of the companies that take the new boats out on Sea Trials, my just younger sister works for Jackson County in the court system, and my older brother just moved back to the coast after having been away since Katrina, and moved three doors down from my just younger sister! He works for MDOT, but many moons ago, he used to work for NOAA out of the port area.
Pascagoula got slammed by Katrina; there was 6' of water in the downtown area, and every police car was ruined, because they were all called in at the height of the storm and dutifully parked right outside headquarters. Ruh, roh! They didn't even get that much water in Camille in the late 60's, Fred in the late 70's, or Ellen, I think it was, in the early 80's, and those last two drew a bead on Pascagoula. The town looks like it's trying hard to come back, though, which is always good!
Welcome to the Canteen, SuziQ, and thanks for sharing your memories.
