LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Could "green" become a new watchword in TV programming?
While the media companies have long been touting everything they're doing behind the scenes to become more environment-friendly, the message increasingly is seeping into their programming.
On Wednesday, Discovery Communications launches the first 24/7 eco-friendly network, Planet Green, which will take over the space occupied by Discovery Home Channel. That follows NBC Universal's second companywide "Green Week" in April -- featuring 100 hours of green-themed content airing across 42 NBC Universal brands and 28 Web sites -- with two more already planned for November and April.
Planet Green will launch with more than 250 hours of original programming, featuring a range of name talent in front of and behind the camera, including Leonardo DiCaprio, celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, rocker Tommy Lee and rapper Ludacris. It officially kicks off at 6 p.m. with the entertainment newsmagazine "Hollywood Green With Maria Menounos," followed by the Tom Bergeron-hosted "Supper Club."
Planet Green president and GM Eileen O'Neill said it's the perfect time to launch an eco-friendly channel.
"Now is a critical time in our planet's health," she said. "There is a rally cry out there, and now we're really going to bring it into viewers' own homes to be the inspiration for them to make changes around their household and lifestyle."

This new network has been pushed hard by the other networks with a liberal bent, including Mark Cuban's HDNet.
There were some very good home improvement shows on Discovery Home which are simpley "gone" for the sake of the envirowacko movement.

From the article:
O’Neill brushed aside any concerns about the network’s ability to reach those viewers who have yet to jump on the green bandwagon.
“Ecotainment is a new genre, and we have a lot of great content that’s very diverse,” she said. “We’re bringing green into the mainstream. We need to reach even more people so they see the entertainment value but also the green message. That’s what we’re all about.”

In other words, they’re going to program the ignorant masses.
It shows up on my dish tv guide as DJSC, right after DISC. It means Discovery Junk Science Channel.
Since nature abhors a vacuum, and the socialists/marxists have done their uttermost to undermine traditional Christianity, they must offer something else for humanity to worship—so one of their choices is Mother Gaia. For those for whom that’s too impersonal, they now offer Obamassiah. Something for everyone-as long as it’s not the God of the living Word.
Hey, if it gets some of Discovery Networks’ envirocrap off their other channels and concentrates it in one place for easier ignoring, I’m all for it.

In simpler terms: It’s a religion for those who don’t have one.

I’m hoping for the same thing, but the signs aren’t good.
The DIY Network was hyping Planet Green as well...and I’ve noticed the shows are talking more about the environment.
Yep.
On a related note-I have loved watching the History Channel, and History International. But there have been too many either revisionist history, or anti-Christian shows on there lately, and I haven’t watched much lately. I hate that I get excited to have a perfectly good history channel to watch, but once I get hooked, the leftist agenda gets kicked in. I have seen shows that did everything but outright Christianity as a fairytale, but when they have a show about Islam, it’s treated with the greatest deference. If they’re going to propagate a viewpoint that religion is fairytales for the gullible, they could at least be consistent and apply the same standard to Islam that they apply to Christianity. I suppose, though they’d never admit it, that they know the Christians won’t threaten to cut their heads off for mocking Christians.
Honestly, I’ve been trying to think of ways I can cash in on this green trend too. Nothing would make me happier to take money from these idiots.
Hope they crash and burn and leave a big thick billowy smoky cloud of CO2 behind.
I was dissappointed to learn that “Holmes on Homes” wasn’t part of their new “green linup”, especially given that they only seem to have a few shows and they are repeating them constantly.
LOL!
That’s for the OTHER people, silly.
Besides, they can just buy carbon credits.
