Critical Threats: Blank When None
The Hunt for American al Qaeda

The United States is turning up the heat in the hunt for the California boy turned al Qaeda operative, Adam Gadahn, who has been charged with treason and is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan. If caught and convicted, Gadahn could face the death penalty.

The State Department along with the Department of Diplomatic Security announced the beginning of a publicity campaign in Afghanistan urging locals to provide any information on Gadahn's whereabouts, with a reward if the information leads to his capture.

Radio advertisements with information concerning the $1 million reward have already begun airing. Additionally, printed materials including matchbooks, handbills and posters will be distributed throughout the region in the coming weeks in attempts to elicit cooperation from members of the Afghan community. “US names al Qaeda emir of Mosul killed during raid”
By BILL ROGGIO
June 26, 2008 6:02 PM

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The US military has identified al Qaeda’s leader of Mosul who was killed during a targeted raid in the northern city on June 24.

Multinational Forces Iraq named Abu Khalaf as al Qaeda’s emir, or leader, of Mosul who was killed during a raid by Task Force 88, the hunter-killer teams assigned to disrupt terrorist command networks in Iraq and elsewhere. Khalaf was killed by US forces as he reached for a gun and his associate attempted to detonate his vest.

Khalaf “rose through the ranks to become the overall emir of Mosul,” the US military stated. He served as al Qaeda’s military commander in Mosul during the rule of former al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi.

He would meet with senior al Qaeda leaders in Mosul and the Jazeera desert “coordinating and ordering dozens of attacks against Iraqi citizens, Iraqi forces and Coalition forces.”

Khalaf had close ties to foreign al Qaeda terrorists, according to his associates in custody. “Khalaf traveled much of the time with foreigners,” the US military said. Abu Khalud, his aide wearing the suicide vest at the time of his death, was a Syrian national.

The US military has decimated al Qaeda’s command network in Mosul since major operations kicked off early this year.”

Coalition Forces Kill One, Detain 11, Find Weapons in Iraq

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, June 27, 2008 – Coalition forces killed one militant, detained 11 suspected terrorists and found numerous weapons caches during recent operations in Iraq, military officials said.

Coalition forces captured five suspected terrorists in separate operations today in Taji, Biaj and Anbar province.

Intelligence gathered from a June 14 operation resulted in U.S. troops detaining three suspected al-Qaida operatives in Taji. Another suspected terrorist was captured in Biaj, about 80 miles southwest of Mosul, for allegedly harboring terrorists, officials said.

In Anbar, coalition forces arrested one man for his alleged association with an al-Qaida cell. The cell is believed to be responsible for a bombing yesterday that killed three U.S. Marines and 20 Iraqi sheiks, officials said.

In operations yesterday:

— Coalition forces killed one terrorist, detained three others and found weapons during operations about 60 miles south of Mosul in Sharqat. The individuals are believed to be connected to a terrorist bomb cell leader in the area. Some of the weapons discovered were high-powered rifles, a machine gun, hand grenades, pistols and explosive-triggering devices, officials said.

— U.S. soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division captured three suspected terrorists, including an Iranian-backed “special groups” cell leader, in Baghdad’s Rashid district. The suspects allegedly are responsible for numerous attacks against U.S. and Iraqi forces in the area, officials said.

— Soldiers from the 1st Iraqi Army Division uncovered several weapons caches during operations in Baghdad’s Sadr City district. They found 19 artillery rounds, four rocket-propelled grenades, four AK-47 assault rifles, two roadside bombs designed to pierce armor-hulled vehicles, two sniper rifles and various bomb-making materials, officials said.

— U.S. and Iraqi forces confiscated multiple weapons caches during operations northwest of Baghdad and in the New Baghdad district. They found more than 25 various rifles and machine guns, three mortar rounds, three anti-tank mines, a rocket-propelled grenade, a surface-to-air missile and bomb-making materials, officials said.

— Iraqi soldiers operating in Diyala province found more than 1,000 pounds of explosives, 10 anti-tank mines, four rockets, three homemade bombs and various bomb-making materials, officials said.

— Tips from local civilians led U.S. troops from the 10th Cavalry Regiment and the 101st Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team to discover a weapons cache in western Baghdad’s Ameriyah neighborhood. The cache contained 122 mortar rounds, 17 rocket-propelled grenades, eight rockets, three sniper rifles, a machine gun, TNT explosives, mortar tubes and various bomb-making materials, officials said.

Eye Witness Account of Nuclear Bomb by a Former N. Korean Nuke Technician, a Defector

Satellite Photograph of the bomb assembly facility made public

2008.6.26 18:46

Topics of this news: The North Korean Nuclear Problem

On June 26, a Korean Peninsula affairs team at a think tank called the “Japanese policy research center”(Tokyo,) held a press conference at a friendship hall of Tokyo’s Minato-ku-ji, announcing that a former N. Korean nuclear technician, now a defector, gave a clear testimony that he had seen a nuclear bomb in January, 2001.

According to Aiya Osamu, a journalist who made announcement, and other participants, the nuclear technician(specialist in (high) explosives) is Park Wan-chol (alias) who defected to S. Korea in 2005. In an interview conducted by experts last month, he testified that he witnessed the bomb in person at a building near Party Committee (building) of Yongbyun. There was one nuclear bomb placed in a room,

It is of cylindrical shape, about 1 meter in diameter and height, and electrical wires were wound around the top and the bottom part of it. He said, “At the site, there were up to 60 ignition devices. Detonation charge and plutonium were also inside. A neutron firing device with beryllium and others was located at the center. If you align them properly, you have a nuclear bomb.” He also said, “N. Korea has already given up plutonium development, and changed the direction of their research.”

According to Mr. Osamu, the facilities were built in 80’s. He said, “The nuclear bomb cannot be mounted on a Rodong or other missiles due to its size. However, N. Korea has the expertise on (high) explosives, which is a key to miniaturization of nuclear bomb and could have made some advances on miniaturization.”

Top immigration lawyer charged with taking bribes
06/27/2008

LOS ANGELES - A top federal immigration attorney and his wife were arrested Thursday on suspicion of accepting bribes from immigrants seeking to remain in the United States, according to the FBI.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Chief Counsel Constantine Peter Kallas, 38, and his wife, Maria Kallas, 39, both of Alta Loma, were arrested by FBI agents at the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino in Highland after they allegedly accepted a $20,000 bribe from an immigrant seeking documents to stay in the country, said U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Thom Mrozek.

They are also accused of accepting thousands of dollars from other illegal immigrants and green card holders in exchange for immigration benefits, Mrozek said. Kallas, who has been with ICE since June 1998 and worked at ICE's office in Los Angeles, has been on unpaid leave since January 2007.

RIYADH/JEDDAH: During the last six months, Saudi security forces have arrested 701 militants for allegedly plotting to carry out terrorist attacks on oil facilities and other vital installations across the Kingdom, the Interior Ministry announced yesterday.
