Critical Threats: Blank When None
The Hunt for American al Qaeda

The United States is turning up the heat in the hunt for the California boy turned al Qaeda operative, Adam Gadahn, who has been charged with treason and is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan. If caught and convicted, Gadahn could face the death penalty.

The State Department along with the Department of Diplomatic Security announced the beginning of a publicity campaign in Afghanistan urging locals to provide any information on Gadahn's whereabouts, with a reward if the information leads to his capture.

Radio advertisements with information concerning the $1 million reward have already begun airing. Additionally, printed materials including matchbooks, handbills and posters will be distributed throughout the region in the coming weeks in attempts to elicit cooperation from members of the Afghan community. “New York Times Outs CIA Operative”
NewsBusters.org ^ | June 22, 2008 - 10:12 ET | Mick Wright |
Posted on June 22, 2008 8:49:33 AM PDT by TexasCajun

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In an astonishing stroke of irony, the New York Times has outed the name of the CIA operative who interrogated 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, over the objections of CIA Director Michael V. Hayden and a lawyer representing the operative.

Agency officials and legal counsel told the Times that publishing the agent’s name would “invade his privacy and put him at risk of retaliation from terrorists or harassment from critics of the agency.””

Police Say Muslim Villagers attack Christians after Disappearance of Muslim Convert

By Jeremy Reynalds
Correspondent for ASSIST News Service

CAIRO, EGYPT (ANS) — An Egyptian police official said security forces have clashed with hundreds of angry Muslims who attacked houses and shops owned by Christians in a tiny farming village south of Cairo.

According to a story by the Associated Press (AP), the clashes took place late Friday after the disappearance of a young woman who had converted to Islam in the village of al-Nazalah. Egypt has seen several incidents of violence between Muslims and Christians in recent weeks.

The AP reported the police official said officers fired tear gas at, and scuffled with, about 1,000 Muslims who had accused Christians of kidnaping the female Muslim convert to force her to return to Christianity.

The AP said he spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

A village priest told the AP that Muslim residents also threw Molotov cocktails at Christians.

Gunmen Kidnap At Least Nine Christians in NW Pakistan

By Jeremy Reynalds
Correspondent for ASSIST News Service

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (ANS) — Unidentified gunmen kidnapped nine Pakistani Christians on Saturday in an attack on a religious gathering in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

“The gunmen came in six vehicles and attacked the house where the Christian people were praying and took away at least nine people with them,” a senior police official, Imran Shahid, told Reuters reporter Faris Ali.

Reuters reported that some local residents said over two dozen people had been kidnapped in the attack in the Danishabad area of Peshawar city, the capital of North West Frontier Province.

According to Reuters, there was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the area is close to the Khyber tribal region where Islamist militants have been active in recent months. The region is also notorious for smugglers and bandits.

Reuters reported that Pakistan has seen a wave of militant violence; most of it in the northwest and the adjoining lawless tribal belt on the Afghan border, since the middle of the last year, but minority Christians have not been overtly targeted as such.

Pastor Beaten; Police Look the Other Way

Gospel for Asia
For Immediate Release

MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA (ANS) — Gospel for Asia missionary Govind Ram and members of his congregation ask for prayer as they are appealing to their Superintendant of Police for protection. This request comes after local policemen did nothing to protect them from a group of 50 fanatics who, on June 15, savagely attacked the Christians.

Govind was in his church conducting a service when the fanatics came inside, dragged him and his wife outside and began beating them in front of their congregation. Several of the believers tried to help their pastor, but the extremists just beat them, too. The police were summoned, but the officers stood by watching, apparently powerless to control the mob of angry anti-Christians.

“The believers, who ran to help the pastor, were also beaten up in the presence of the policemen,” GFA’s correspondent wrote. “Meanwhile, the police disappeared in the crowd without taking any action or protecting the pastor and the believers.”

After the incident, the extremists warned Govind not to continue ministering in the village, or face “dire consequences.”

Govind and some believers from his church went to police authorities to request future protection, but they were turned away. Their next step is to lodge a formal request with the Superintendent of Police.

Govind and the Christians in his village urgently request prayer that the authorities and local police will act justly and agree to help the persecuted believers. They also ask for prayer that God will give them wisdom and courage to stand firm in these turbulent times.

Female bomber kills 16 near government complex
6/22/08

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A female suicide bomber killed 16 people and wounded 40 Sunday when she detonated her explosives in a crowded area of central Baquba, police there said. A woman reacts as she views the scene of a Sunday suicide bombing in Baquba.

Police, women and children were among the casualties, according to the Diyala Military Operations command. The attack happened near the main government complex in Baquba on a street that security officials had sealed off last week. Only official vehicles were being allowed in the area; civilian vehicles without special clearance were prohibited.

More than 20 female suicide bombers have carried out attacks in Iraq this year, a number much higher than in previous years. According to the U.S. military, women carried out eight bombings in 2007.

Pakistan's Khan says no links to Swiss nuclear experts
Sunday June 22, 2008

Abdul Qadeer Khan, the disgraced father of Pakistan's nuclear programme, on Sunday denied that Islamabad or his laboratory were linked to alleged plans found on Swiss engineers to make nuclear weapons. The Swiss government revealed last month that three engineers were found with "detailed plans of how to make nuclear weapons" when they were arrested four years ago on suspicion of smuggling nuclear secrets to Libya.

Khan told Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag that although he knew the engineer -- named by the paper as Urs Tinner -- and his two sons for more than 30 years, the plans were not connected to his programme. "Pakistan and the Khan Research Laboratories have absolutely nothing to do with whatever Tinner or his sons had on their computers," he told the newspaper in a written interview. "I have known the Tinner family since 1976 and would not hesitate for a moment to stick my hand in the fire for them," Khan added.

The three engineers were arrested in Germany in October 2004 and then extradited to Switzerland in May 2005. The father was released in 2006 but his two sons are still in prison.

The Swiss government faced a storm of criticism after revealing it had destroyed the documents last November "to prevent them falling into the hands of a terrorist organisation or non-authorised state." Politicians as well as a judge criticised the government over its decision, with a judge calling the action "outrageous".

U.S. nuke spotters sent to China before games
Friday, June 20, 2008

The Bush administration has dispatched a secret team of nuclear specialists to China in response to Chinese concerns that terrorists may attempt to set off a radiological bomb during the Beijing Summer Olympics, The Washington Times has learned.

The Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) was sent on Chinese intelligence indicating that any attack likely would involve a radiological device - a conventional explosive laced with radioactive material to enhance its effect - said Bush administration officials familiar with the security efforts.

The NEST deployment was disclosed as China announced this week that it is conducting a citywide drill in Beijing to test responses for a radiological bomb attack. It could not be learned whether the NEST unit will participate in the drill. The deployment to China is unusual. NEST units usually deploy to areas in the United States and use highly classified equipment and techniques.
