In Speeches, Clinton Often Veers to Dark Side
Washington Post ^ | Thursday, April 3, 2008 | Anne E. Kornblut

It almost always comes when the audience least expects it: the moment Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton brings a roaring crowd to a hush with a heart-rending anecdote.

"I remember listening to a story about a young woman in a small town along the Ohio River, in Meigs County, who worked in a pizza parlor," the Democratic presidential candidate said during a stop in Cleveland, beginning a particularly grim tale.

"She got pregnant, she started having problems. There's no hospital left in Meigs County, so she had to go to a neighboring county. She showed up, and the hospital said, 'You know, you've got to give us $100 before we can see you.' She didn't have $100," Clinton said.

"So the young woman went back home," she continued. "The next time she went back, she was in an ambulance. It turned out she lost the baby. She was airlifted to Columbus."

She paused before concluding: "And after heroic efforts at the medical center, she died." The audience, as always, gasped.

The story has become a staple of Clinton's stump speech, a prime example of how, in a campaign year in which lofty phrases have taken center stage, she has rejected sweeping oratory -- "just words," as her campaign likes to accuse Democratic rival Barack Obama of offering -- in favor of a dramatic speaking style all her own.

In hushed tones, sometimes with palpable sadness in her voice, Clinton tells dark, difficult anecdotes picked up on the campaign trail.

The ironic thing about this story is that Hillary advocates for women to be able to dispose of this "pathological waste" known as an unborn child without any consequences at all. It's simply not credible that a woman with so vicious a mind-set could find such compassion for the fictitious woman in her story.

It's all an act. Hillary is an abortion-hugging ghoul. Never forget that.

I cannot believe that Hillary would lie any more than I can believe the media would ever lie.

Grant to fund ER study

By Brian J. Reed

POMEROY — Meigs County has received a $6,000 grant to study feasibility of combining a 24-hour emergency room with the Family Health Care clinic now serving the county’s residents.

The funds will allow a six-member team to visit rural health care facilities around the country to see if their models for rural health care can be used to develop additional health care services here.

County Commissioner Mick Davenport said the funding came from the Ohio Rural Health Quality Initiative. He said the team from the county attended a program a year ago and submitted a proposal to the organization for a feasibility study. He received notification Friday of the grant award.

The team represents the economic development office, board of commissioners, Department of Job and Family Services and the Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency.

The Family Health Care clinic, located in the county-owned medical arts building on the Veterans Memorial Hospital property, has been operating for three months and is now at full capacity, Davenport said.

It is operated by a Chillicothe-based non-profit organization, on behalf of county commissioners. The clinic provides family practice services to anyone, regardless of health insurance, on a sliding fee scale.

There is NO DOUBT that the level of service will decrease with socialist healthcare. But the rank & file left won’t believe it. The siren song of a free lunch is too strong.

This should be solved the way Mitt solved the tax increase crowd in Mass -

set up a health care fund that libs can voluntarily contribute to and demonstrate how much they believe in it.

The BS is much deeper than whether she qualified for Medicaid or not.

EMTALA is the law of the land. An emergency room is not allowed to base treatment on whether the patient can pay or not. The fines are stiff and the law is vigorously enforced.

Our ER won’t even ask about payment details until after the patient is seen by the doctor.

Good point, Caption!

Just look at her ‘progress’ over the years and add 4-8 years. Now, I don't want to sound sexist, but some women face a real downturn in their 60’s, as do some men and frankly, I don't want the Hillary image on my TV much longer - it's already disturbing, at best.

Also, the mouth wide open practically all the time thing is frightening.

Tomorrow she’ll drop the $100 and claim they were turned away by sniper fire.

Canada is sending women who have high risk pregnancies to the US for care. They have NO facilities for them. Where are women going to go when Hillary ruins our health care system??? Cuba??
Her anecdote is probably untrue or embellished for maximum crowd effect. Hospitals can lose their funding if they refuse care to anyone. And $100 sounds more like a copay requirement. Could be her insurer refused to give prior authorization for care. So this woman probably had health insurance if the story is true.

Exactly!

Hillary thinks everyone is as stupid as the people who vote for her.

Only 23,000 people live in Meigs County.

If she worked in a pizzeria in a town located on the banks of the Ohio in Meigs County, the pizzeria is either in Middleport or Pomeroy. There are only four pizzerias that fit the geographical description given - a Domino's, a Pizza Hut and two independents.

An enterprising reporter could nail this story down within hours.

"She got pregnant, she started having problems. There's no hospital left in Meigs County, so she had to go to a neighboring county. She showed up, and the hospital said, 'You know, you've got to give us $100 before we can see you.' She didn't have $100," Clinton said.

All four pizzerias are located within 6 miles of Pleasant Valley Hospital in Mason WV.

If this woman was able to get to work each day, she was also able to get to the hospital a few miles further down the road.

Google does not have any news items that relate to this story's key words - a pregnant woman airlifted to Columbus from Meigs County or Middleport or Pomery or Mason.

Given the specifics, this could be another Clinton hoax.

You’re pointing out the first thing I thought when I read this story. What about Veteran’s Memorial in Pomeroy? Did it close down or something? I’ve visited relatives in that hospital a number of times. My parents grew up in Meigs County, and I used to spend summers there with my grandparents. This story sounds like a bunch of crap, just based on the false claim that there’s no hospital in Meigs County. Whether it’s because Hitlery just made it up, or she’s repeating a false/exaggerated account from a syncophant without fact checking it - who can say.
