It almost always comes when the audience least expects it: the moment Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton brings a roaring crowd to a hush with a heart-rending anecdote.
"I remember listening to a story about a young woman in a small town along the Ohio River, in Meigs County, who worked in a pizza parlor," the Democratic presidential candidate said during a stop in Cleveland, beginning a particularly grim tale.
"She got pregnant, she started having problems. There's no hospital left in Meigs County, so she had to go to a neighboring county. She showed up, and the hospital said, 'You know, you've got to give us $100 before we can see you.' She didn't have $100," Clinton said.
"So the young woman went back home," she continued. "The next time she went back, she was in an ambulance. It turned out she lost the baby. She was airlifted to Columbus."
She paused before concluding: "And after heroic efforts at the medical center, she died." The audience, as always, gasped.
The story has become a staple of Clinton's stump speech, a prime example of how, in a campaign year in which lofty phrases have taken center stage, she has rejected sweeping oratory -- "just words," as her campaign likes to accuse Democratic rival Barack Obama of offering -- in favor of a dramatic speaking style all her own.
In hushed tones, sometimes with palpable sadness in her voice, Clinton tells dark, difficult anecdotes picked up on the campaign trail.

Exactly. Also, they allegedly ask for $100 bucks upfront? What a LIAR.
I’m hoping that someone can take the basic facts as stated and check them out. The story just doesn’t sound true. On the other hand, nothing that is normally done now needs to change - with that request for $100 way out there in the lie department or, if true, something that simply needs to be corrected at the hospital level, not at the federal government level and for sure not a call to the White House at 3 a.m. in the morning.
She lies more than her husband. I didn’t think that was humanly possible.
IF the story were true, she would have her minions MARCHING on the Hospital and blaming BUSH for the woman’s DEATH!!! IT’S A LIE!! She’s a LIAR!!
100% Right:
“...and while the audience was stunned into silence, an elderly woman in an old blue wool coat stood up. Her hat was obviously from another era as were her glasses. She stood silent for only a moment before asking in a surprisingly strong timber:
‘And what was her name, Mrs. Clinton?’
Why doesn't Meigs County have a hospital anymore?
What counties neighbor Meigs County?
What hospitals are there in those counties?
What is/are/was/were their policies on pregnant women being admitted?
Hillary just stepped in it again.
“Can Hillary get any screwier looking?”
Scarier, maybe. Someone posted a picture of her dressed in brown doing the Nazi salute. Now, that was frightening!
So, Caption - think of her if she is elected POTUS, say in 4 or even 8 years.......If you are asking a question, yes is the answer and it’s yes even if she doesn’t get to the White House.
Yikes - but, will she be the first POTUS that takes time off for cosmetic surgery, perhaps even a week or two at a fat farm? Keep in mind - she’s planning to answer the phone at 3 a.m. in the morning, althought the call will probably be from Bill or for Bill!
“I remember listening to a story. means: “ I will now feed you a big pile of KA KA.....
If this is in fact true, it's probably due to a combination of malpractice lawyers driving up their expenses and illegal aliens driving down their revenue.
This is why I read the Brit papers online. Because THERE, under the NHS, this sort of thing happens all the time. Read them and see.
It's just her campaign speechwriter, the Ghost of Goebels, writing about "Jew-Louse Typhus" again.
There is a little more information at the end of the story, including a name.
Clinton was told the story by Bryan Holman, the Meigs County deputy sheriff, who said the deceased woman was Trina Bachtel, whom campaign officials had been unable to identify.
Bachtel, Holman said, had been turned away from the hospital not only for lack of $100 but also because she had unpaid bills -- a detail that Clinton has not mentioned. Public records show that Bachtel of Pomeroy, Ohio, died on Aug. 15, 2007, at age 35. She previously had thousands of dollars in hospital debt, but it was paid off by 2005.
But the story still doesn't make sense. Even with a record of unpaid/slow paid bills, she was eligible for Medicaid.
Did the woman die from pregnancy complications...or from sniper fire?
With Hillary, who would know?
I should have made it clear that the woman is named in the Washington Post story, not the CNN transcript.
That is a flat out lie (what's new?). ANYONE who shows up at a hospital has to be seen no matter if they can pay or not, period. That's the law.
With those thighs she'll need to go to a Fat Plantation and they may have to consider widening some doorways to accommodate her 'wide load'.
