Every Thursday at the Finest |
We do have a huge flock of these little yellow beauties. They love our fountain out front, especially when it is turned on. We joke about how it's the Finch family's private spa. I've never seen happier little birds. Sometimes there will be thirty or more splashing around in the water. They are tough little birds too. They don't seem to mind the cold at all. In the winter I've seen them playing in the fountain when there was ice floating in it.
My Jays are pretty spoiled and finicky. They turn up their beaks at anything I try to give them; sunflower seeds, crackers, etc. They will only take peanuts. I'm sure we have several pounds of peanuts buried under our lawn.
Those were some very creative solutions you came up with to deter those rats. Did they work? We have fruit rats that come around our citrus trees. The only thing that gets rid of them is poison bait that we put out in a bait box. As much as I love all animals, I cannot stand to have rats in my yard. :-(
I wish I could stay and play some more, but I have lots of chores on my "to do" list. *sigh* So, I need to go. Have a great day, everyone!
Spies are out all the time! Hope your birthday was or is great!
Great picture!Thank you, MamaBear..
I love watching Goldfinches..My daughter near Houston has lots of goldfinches..and I have none, though I have seen them in another yard in my town..Lovely and lively little birds.
I made a mistake about having a mourning dove visit..It is a smaller Inca dove..a midget compared to my White wings..I had not seen an Inca dove since I returned to my house two summers ago...It is coming regularly now.
The squirrels love the more expensive mix I bought for my birds to supplement the sunflower seeds as did the fox early this morning....A squirrel also promptly grabbed the peanuts I put out to lure the Bluejay back.
Little robbers do entertain me..LOL
Do you keep a finch feeder up for them? I do and they can clean it out in two days. I do love them and they are so pretty. I also notice they gather around my birdbath all together when there are no other birds around. Haven’t seen them yet but I haven’t been out a whole lot since the weather is just now warming up a bit. Today is beautiful!
Was...even though I’m another year older. LOL
Awesome Graphics, Everyone, and yorkie, I Loved the Story of the Jays and the Moth Balls, Lol! : )
My Husband Snapped this Pic Recently, and there's Nothing Wrong with the Squirrel's Foot, but the Way he is Holding it Up, he Looks Like he is Saying, "I'm Cute, aren't I?"
No. The jays took the moth balls every day, and the rats rather enjoyed building a nest to heavy metal music in a fully lighted engine compartment.
I had to do something. So I started researching ways to rid the property of vermine. (Even the US Army cannot stop them with concrete. They chew right through it.)
I didn't want to use poison - because it would affect all the wildlife here, killing everything from little mice up to coyotes, javelina, etc.
Then, I found the Rat Zapper. (Larry Hagman has over 100 of these things on his property - and no more rats.)
This thing is about the size of a shoe box - open on one end. You put a couple seeds or dog food in the closed end of the box. When a rat goes to retrieve the food, "ZAP!" he's gone. He is electrocuted instantly. No pain, no blood, no mess to clean up. You don't even have to touch the carcass or even look at it. A light blinks on top, when an animal sets off the Zapper. Just fling it in the woods, or empty it into a trash bag.
No more pack rats. It's been two years, now.
That is TOO cute! LOL!
Meg33 {{hugs}] thanks!
I hear our bluebonnets here in Texas aren’t blooming as well as they should this year. Wonder why.
I’ll have to check out that Rat Zapper. The bait box that we use has a small hole only big enough for a rat to squeeze into, and it’s locked, so I have no fear that anything else, except maybe a few field mice are in danger of getting poisoned. But that Rat Zapper sounds like a good solution. I’m going to look into it. The main thing I don’t like about the poison is how long it takes the critter to die and where it might go to die. I don’t like the idea of any creature suffering, even a rat.
Thanks LUV. Chachi sends you a big wet smooooochie. :-)
I have heard that also..My pink dogwood is about 10 days later than the first bloom last year..Maybe there is hope for the bluebonnets yet..I have noticed some years are better than others but I don’t know why.
Love this! Thank you, kitty.
Thanks for the George and Barney photo!
