WASHINGTON - A law enforcement official says police are investigating letters sent to Capitol Hill offices showing pictures of a Times Square military recruiting station that was bombed.
According to the official, who was briefed on the investigation, the letters included words to the effect of, "We did it." The official did not know which offices received the letters.
The small bomb caused minor damage to the New York military recruiting station before dawn Thursday and police were searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance video peddling away.

Oh, dear. I'm so sorry that I gave you the wrong impression. That I favor recruitment center bombings. That I like Republicans bending over to the Democrats. That I like Democrats running the country.
Forgive me. Rant on. </sarcasm>

My little gray cells tell me the perp is a skinny, wire-rimmed-glasses nerd living in a cold-water flat in NY City, cooking little homemade bombs in his kitchenette by night and working at his job as a bicycle messenger boy in the snarled traffic of the financial district by day.
I'll even go out on a limb and predict his name is Lance.

"Hey, what do you make of this anti-war manifesto and this postcard of this guy saying, 'Happy New Year! We did it!'"
"Why, my god, Man, this guy is going to bomb that recruiting center on Thursday! Alert the police immediately!"

You know somebody knew way before today or yesterday!
If not and the letters really did arrive today....how do you time letters so precisely with no understanding about the mailroom security measures and how long it takes a letter from California to get to the offices on Capitol Hill?
That means the person sending the letters had to know the exact date/time to send the letters in order for them to be received today!
It fails the smell and logic test.

Eight Dems blow their 3 AM call.
Sound like the makings of a great TV campaign ad.

Since the card said “Happy New Year” I’m guessing that means that they planned to do this 6-8 weeks ago but, for whatever reason, their plan was delayed.

LOL!!! Lance? By the way, the bicycle was supposedly new and dumped in a dumpster within a few blocks.
From the AP via The Olympian,
'We did it' letters eyed in NY bombing
..."The manila envelopes contained a photo of a man standing in front of the recruiting station before it was bombed. The photo was the kind commonly sent as a holiday greeting card, according to a Democratic aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter is under investigation.
The message on the card: "Happy New Year, We Did It."
The envelope also contained a packet of approximately 10 sheets of paper that seemed to be a political manifesto railing against the Iraq war and a booklet. The aide didn't know what the booklet was.
A second aide, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said similar letters arrived in as many as 10 offices.
Capitol Police, FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service were investigating. In an e-mail to lawmakers, Capitol Police said the envelopes went through the standard security process.
That process, which involves radiating incoming mail, can easily take a week or more, making it likely the letters were mailed well ahead of the bombing."....
...."
Each envelope was stamped with two $1 stamps and contained a while label with a return address, which the police did not identify in the e-mail. Police said the letters were safe and did not contain threats to lawmakers."....

We have to remember that this was an explosion that most likely took place on the sidewalk. The blast would disburse in the open air, only a part of it hitting the building. If it did that much damage from an open air sidewalk, and I’ll admit it may not have (I don’t seen any blast evidence on the cement), then it was a relatively powerful bomb.
It looks as if it might have been up against the door from what I can see here. The blast center looks like to corner of the door, lower left. Burn marks seem ot indicate it.

One congressional staffer who saw the letter said it included a photo showing a white man who appeared to be in his 30s with red hair.Hmmm, this guy is a 30ish redhead. And he has an explosive temper.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that he has a job with UFPJ now.
And here he is, on the left of course, with some of his buds on the Hill.

That’s a good shot. Thanks.
