A breast cancer foundation known for its fundraising races across the globe faces increased scrutiny from Roman Catholic church dioceses for its support of Planned Parenthood.
The church's Little Rock diocese has urged its members not to donate to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which has invested about $1 billion in cancer outreach and research. The reason, church leaders say, comes from the Dallas-based foundation giving money to Planned Parenthood to hold breast exams and offer education to women in its clinics.
"Donors cannot control how an organization designates its funds," the diocese statement reads. "Therefore, money donated for a specific service ... directly frees up funds to support other areas of an organization's agenda."
Marianne Linane, director of the diocese's "respect life" office, said those other agendas include abortions and contraceptive services. The Catholic church's policy is that abortion is wrong in every instance.
Linane said the Little Rock diocese, which oversees all churches in Arkansas, used the same statement sent out by the church's St. Louis diocese last year. However, the end of the Little Rock letter included addresses of Arkansas hospitals parishioners could donate to that would eliminate "the administrative funds for a middle broker."
Monsignor J. Gaston Hebert sent the statement to parishes and Catholic schools this month and planned to send out a follow-up letter, Linane said. Hebert did not return a call for comment Tuesday.
The Little Rock diocese's decision comes as northwest Arkansas prepares for its running of the Race for the Cure on April 19. Officials estimated Little Rock's running last year brought out more than 43,000 participants and raised more than $1.65 million.
Little Rock follows other dioceses in raising concerns with the foundation.
In 2005, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston abandoned its support of the foundation.

Finally .. some word is getting out about them. They are BIG funders of Planned Parenthood, and the reason I haven't contributed to their causes since I learned.
PLEASE pass this along ... folks just naturally assume it's a worthy cause; my former workplace has an annual Susan G. Komen walk for the cure, as do many. Their PR, lobbying and seemingly exclusively breast cancer efforts are immense, but deceptive. You sure don't get the whole picture unless you dig for it.
~~PING!
Another way of putting this is that they are basically a front for Planned Parenthood.

I’ve lost an aunt to breast cancer, and my mother in law is currently struggling to live with stage-4 breast cancer. I ran/walked as a fundraiser for Komen once many years ago, but as soon as I heard about how they choose to spend their funds, it stopped.
I am much, much, much more careful about where my charitable giving goes. Finding a good church is the best way to make sure your contributions go to truly good works.
How does killing babies benefit breast cancer research??
I’d like more info on this. IF the money to Planned Parenthood id to fund breast exams or pamphlets about breast cancer, I would not condemn that activity, meaning the distribution of info about breast cancer. However, I’m not interested in giving to Komen in order to fund Planned Parenthood at any level. Especially because it appears both abortion and oral contraceptives increase risks for breast cancer.
I ran for them twice. Now I don’t.
I think you are misreading those statistics, well over 80% of what they raise is spent on the programs they sponsor, and they are given a good rating in that regard.
WONDERFUL NEWS.
The Diocese here in Phoenix recently denounced the Komen Foundation.
I never miss a chance to inform “Race for the Cure” cultists (who hit me up for donations)about the Komen-Planned Parenthood-abortion connection. I refuse to donate and always give my reasons why.
Most of the Komen cultists are liberal feel-gooders, the kind of women who will vote for Hillary! because “she’s worked so hard and she deserves to be president”. LOL

Same problem with the United Way and their directed donations scheme.

From a feminist's perspective, it's another kind of unwanted tissue. Just helping out the sisterhood with a little extra cash.
Good advice for non-Catholics as well. I stopped my donations as soon as I learned their connection with PP.
I think it was Komen who called me for a donation last year, and reminded me that I had previously been a supporter. I told them I had no intention of providing any support in light of their support of PP, and got hung up on.
Good to know .. and thanks for
passing this along. Such a
sham.
Thank you for the link.
Read link @ #8.
Sorry for your family sorrows.
The churches are the best way.
