"It's insignificant (potential loss of Catholic contributions) in relation to all of the funding we do," Gibson said. "I think it's just really unfortunate undue attention is being shed on organizations that are providing vital services ((insert the vital service)) in those communities."

Finally .. some word is getting out about them. They are BIG funders of Planned Parenthood, and the reason I haven't contributed to their causes since I learned.
PLEASE pass this along ... folks just naturally assume it's a worthy cause; my former workplace has an annual Susan G. Komen walk for the cure, as do many. Their PR, lobbying and seemingly exclusively breast cancer efforts are immense, but deceptive. You sure don't get the whole picture unless you dig for it.

They are BIG funders of Planned Parenthood, and the reason I haven't contributed to their causes since I learned.Another way of putting this is that they are basically a front for Planned Parenthood.

I guess their new slogan is: "Fighting breast cancer by making sure that fewer people with breasts are actually born."
It's simply amazing to me that Planned Barrenhood has gotten its claws into SO many charitable organizations. Are the the people running these groups stupid or are they part of the problem?

I’ve lost an aunt to breast cancer, and my mother in law is currently struggling to live with stage-4 breast cancer. I ran/walked as a fundraiser for Komen once many years ago, but as soon as I heard about how they choose to spend their funds, it stopped.
I am much, much, much more careful about where my charitable giving goes. Finding a good church is the best way to make sure your contributions go to truly good works.

I’d like more info on this. IF the money to Planned Parenthood id to fund breast exams or pamphlets about breast cancer, I would not condemn that activity, meaning the distribution of info about breast cancer. However, I’m not interested in giving to Komen in order to fund Planned Parenthood at any level. Especially because it appears both abortion and oral contraceptives increase risks for breast cancer.

Same problem with the United Way and their directed donations scheme.

Good advice for non-Catholics as well. I stopped my donations as soon as I learned their connection with PP.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea they contributed to PP. Which raises another question - why is a nonprofit contributing to another nonprofit?

I was so glad to hear that Monsignor Hebert has done this. We here in Arkansas are without an Archbishop (Monsignor is head of the archdiocese in the meantime). We (Catholics) in AR might not be great in number, but we are still a force to be reckoned with :)

A lot of workplaces take part in Race for the Cure, including mine. I'm not a Catholic, but I'm glad they put this information out.
