Bush's Kosovo policy, like Chamberlain's Munich policy, could lead to war

History has been a harsh critic of Neville Chamberlain's decision in 1938 to allow Adolf Hitler to trash the WWI Versailles peace treaty to seize control of and change the borders Europe, first France in the Rhineland, then Czechoslovakia and Poland. President George W. Bush's quick acceptance of the efforts of the Albanians in Kosovo to change the borders of Serbia will also be viewed in history as an appeasement that did not work.

World War II actually began when Adolf Hitler marched a mere 14,500 troops into the Rhineland on March 7, 1936, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I and the Locarno Treaty which was signed in 1925 that included the "Rhineland Pact" between Germany, France, Belgium, Britain and Italy. The Rhineland Pact's main provision was an agreement among Germany, France and Belgium end border raids, with Britain and Italy agreeing to guarantee the borders in the event of aggression by any of the other states. ... Kosovo is for Serbia a land somewhat similar to what Pennsylvania is to Americans. Kosovo is the cradle of Serbian liberty and the center of their Serbian culture. There are hundreds of structures, churches, monuments, monasteries, that attest to that history. What has happened in Kosovo, with America's help, would be similar to a large group of Islamic fundamentalists, whose hero and mentor is Osama Bin Laden, moving into Pennsylvania over the next 50 years, as Albanians did in Kosovo in the 20th Century, and then voting to become an Independent State with membership in the United Nations, as they burned down the Christian churches, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell while driving out and seizing the property of the remaining Christians, Jews and non-Churched homeowners.

I am playing chess over here and you’re firing off checkers articles to me. The world is full of people that represent predictable behaviors based on our DNA and environment (cultures).

If I look at things from this point of view, the world and my outlooks are indeed simplistic.

You’re defense of Vladamir Putin is interesting considering this second grade article you sent me.

I encourage more time to understand Vlad’s role in the Russian government for the apartment bombings in Moscow, I believe it was 1993. Google is helpful, you don’t need CIA cliffnotes from oh, say guys like James Woosley. But he is on Google also.

Build a statistical analysis model of 10 general personality traits of Vladimir Putin and compare them with 10 major domestic and international behaviors dating back to this era.

When you have completed this, then you and I can talk. Until then, please sit down as you have begun embarrassing yourself.

Thank-you for your suggestions! I definitely would like to read more on this...do you have any specific books to recommend? I have thought about going back to school to get a Masters in Classics, but don’t see that happening anytime in the near future...

> ... now that was funny.

But far too subtle for some, I fear.

I blame the government schools.

WW-I wasn’t the only awful war to start in 1914.

Drug War I also started then (Harrison Act),
although not in the Balkans.

What you wrote was indeed so simplistic that I offered the article as a way out of your profound ignorance - a conundrum that seems to especially infect those stuck in the past.

You may be playing chess with yourself but you seem like one easily beat at tic tac toe.

The only “right” side is America’s side.

And where Kosovo is concerned, you side with the Jihadists.

So, we know America's best interests are NOT your concern here.

I am curious if anyone knows the percentage of Serbs who actually attend church every week? As a casual observer, it is difficult, actually impossible, to reconcile the actions of people such as Mladic and Karadzic with Christianity. If these men read the Bible and believe it, they must be reading a different book than the one I have read. How can you reconcile Srebrenica with Christianity? I would be more understanding if the country of Serbia officially apologized for that, but to my knowledge, they haven’t. I find that whenever I ask questions such as this, too often the response is, well, “the Muslims did this or the Muslims did that.” From what I have read of the Bible, what unbelievers choose to do does not take away the responsibility of the Christ follower to follow the laws of appropriate behavior as defined in the Bible or for that matter, accountability for one’s actions.

Serbs aren't Christians, they are just commies with a Serbiabn flag stuck up their backsides

Normally I wouldn't reply to a POS like you, but Jason, seems you need a cultural lesson.

Krsna Slava - the celebration of the home Patron Saint-is the greatest characteristic of the national and religious life of the Serbian people. It is a beautiful and unique expression of the Orthodox faith that is deeply implanted in the Serbian Christian soul.
Krsna Slava is an exclusively Serbian custom. It is the most solemn day of the year for all Serbs of the Orthodox faith and has played a role of vital importance in the history of the Serbian people. Krsna Slava is actually the celebration of the spiritual birthday of the Serbian people. Our forefathers accepted Christianity collectively by families and by tribes. In commemoration of their baptisms, each family or tribe began to celebrate in a special way to honor the saint on whose day they received the sacrament of Holy Baptism. The mother church blessed this practice and proclaimed Krsna Slava a Christian institution.

The Slava has remained as one of the proven values and customs of the Serbian people through out its history, helping them to withstand centuries of religious proselytism and persecution from the Latin West, as well as slavery and brutality from the Islamic East. The spiritual, social, and preservational role of the Slava remains undiminished for the Serbian people to this day.

The poster said 1938 and you said 1936 in referring to his post

Or, you could read his post: "World War II actually began when Adolf Hitler marched a mere 14,500 troops into the Rhineland on March 7, 1936"

Now that you've said 'Ooops', let's go on.

You were reasonably confused, however, because earlier, he had placed the Rhineland, Czechoslovakia, and Poland all in 1938 (Czechoslovakia was the only one that was arguably invaded in that year. The Rhineland, which he falsely called French territory was in 1936; the actual impingement on French territory was not until 1940, and should have been third, not first, on the list.)

To put things in timeline order for those who were confused by the errors in the main article.

1936 - German troops move into German territory in the Rhineland. The area was demilitarized by the Versailles and Locarno treaties. (To put the treaties in context, imagine the US government agreeing to a treaty to not station US troops in Texas or within 50 miles of the Red River)

1938 - Austria is invaded and merged into Germany.

1938 (October) - German troops reach an agreement to peacefully move into the Sudentenland to protect the largely Germanic population of the area.

1939 (March) - German troop invade the remainder of Czechoslovakia.

1939 (September)- German troops invade Poland.

1940 (April) - Germany invades Norway and Denmark.

1940 (May) Germany invades the low countries and France.

Hey Banat, I hope you are not referring to US Marines or Soldiers retreating into our compounds upon being engaged. We don't do that sort of thing. We engage, close with and kill the enemy. The only time is when we were under a mortar attack then yes, we hit the deck or find nearest shelter.

That is the common form of reaction for any soldier in any army, even the Serbian Army.

"WOW, when I was in Serbia and in Kosovo during the demonstrations, I never NEVER saw a "drunken" Serb."

We saw plenty of them on television during the riots. And the news media has confirmed it in in several report -

"But officials in Belgrade said that a majority of the attackers were young and drunk, and that the embassy attack did not appear to be well organized." - The New York Times

"Many of such protesters who had been injured in suchlike attacks and reported themselves to hospitals were reported by MSNBC.com to be very drunk." - Associated Content

"Doctors at Belgrade's emergency clinic reported treating 96 injured, 32 of them policemen. All were lightly injured, said Dusan Jovanovic, deputy chief of the clinic. He added that most of the injured protesters were "extremely drunk."" - The Associated Press

"Doctors at Belgrade's emergency clinic reported treating 96 injured people, 32 of them police officers. All had minor injuries, and many of the injured protesters were drunk, officials said." - The Washington Post

"At latest count, 96 people had been injured, 32 of them policemen, four of them foreign journalists. (One hospital reported that many of the injured protesters were drunk)." - Newsweek

"Doctors at Belgrade's emergency clinic reported treating more than 30 injured, half of whom were policemen. All were lightly injured, said Dusan Jovanovic, deputy chief of the clinic, adding that most of the injured protesters were "extremely drunk."" - The Canadian Press

and so forth.

"I understand you are a recovering alcoholic too as one of your "buddies" on here passed that information on. So, don't talk about "alcholics", drunk."

You are misinformed, but if Hillary gets elected, I'll probably start drinking heavily.

LOL You said MEDIA REPORTS, you believe everything the media tells you or is it selective on what you choose to believe?

Heck, one media reports stated Mladic was having Tea with Radovan inside the US consus with Holbrooke and they were trying to get inside to collect the reward for the capture of those two!

I can not believe you rely on those reporters. I have seen a few demos and nothing is reported accurate...drunks, goons etc... Yes, there are the younger generation there along with the older generation. Look at the demos here in the states, look at the make up of the demos. At least in Serbia they riot for a damn good reason! They had their land taken away from them overnight to a group of internationaly recognized terrorist group led by war criminals that were wanted for questioning by the Hague.

The media? There is no objective balanced “media” any longer - maybe never was. Controlled by corporate socialists who share the swamps of left wing leeches, the media is to be taken with a grain of salt—duh! It is lies at worst and biased at best.

DU types personify the statement: there is a sucker born every minute. We have them here too apparently.
