• South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford: Strong conservative credentials, would be great for outreach to Mr. McCain's conservative critics.

• Florida Gov. Charlie Crist: Popular governor who helped deliver Florida in the primary, could help deliver it in the general election.

• Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas: Provides a conservative-leaning female face to round out the ticket.

• Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty: Moderate Republican who was an early supporter of Mr. McCain's, could help deliver his swing state in the general election.

• Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal: Rising star among Republicans, he has many already thinking president.

• Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana: Solid conservative pick.

• Sen. Richard M. Burr of North Carolina: Friend of Mr. McCain's and an early supporter in the campaign.

• Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina: Longtime supporter on issue after issue, and possibly his closest partner in the Senate.

• Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice: Would bring balance to the ticket demographically and would underscore the national security credentials of the Republican team.

Huckster's line about the McCain-Huckabee ticket working for 20 odd years (because his wife's maiden name is McCain) makes me hurl every time.

I believe Rice is the only one whom very many Americans know by name or sight. Freepers know who the others are of course, but not the average detached folk.

McCain really ought to pick a conservative for his veep.

It would balance out the ticket.

I’ve heard whispered that Matt Blunt, Missouri’s Governor, might be considered. Young, conservative, and having Roy Blunt as your dad...lol

Out of that list, Jindal or Sanford would be great. Lindsey Graham would be the death of the ticket.

Every time he opens his mouth I feel the same way.

I remember Mike Huckabee and this borg running for President bears no resemblance to the real Mike Huckabee.

I don’t want to see Jindal tainted by attaching his career to McCain. He has too much promise on his own.

Well, if Hillary gets the nomination, McCain could (as his buddy Kerry was rumored to have done) offer the VP slot to a prominent member of the other party. Sen. Obama, for example ;-)

Lovely. Just imagine "Toe Tappin' Charlie" Crist just a drum solo away from all those White House interns. Not the ladies, either...

McCain would do it, too.

We have Charlie Crist rated at "Guarded - but not fooling anyone"

I think he needs somebody with strong executive experience, because other than the senate office, has McCain got any? Huckabee would bring 11 years of executive experience. Jindal doesn't have enough, unless he has private sector.

Pardon me? Charlie Crist is a no go. He is they guy who got the felon vote in Florida so the Dems would win. He also was pretty low to come out with an endorsement two days before the Florida primary.

Absolutely NO

Of this list, the only ones I’d even consider voting for are Jindal and Pence. Most of them are horrible losers.

Sarah Palin, Janice Rogers Brown, J.C. Watts, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, Duncan Hunter, Herman Cain, Tom McClintock, Pat Sajak, Jeff Bezos, Michael Steele, and John Bolton would all make decent V.P. choices if they seriously really want the position, but John McCain, himself, truly needs to do a lot of things that he really doesn’t want to do if he’s seriously going to win over the majority of conservative voters by November 4. I truly don’t see how the next POTUS as well as the next Congress isn’t overwhelmingly Democratic as well as being overwhelmingly leftist.

If Mr. McCain gets nominated, he will need someone to blame for losing 49 or so state.
Being his VP could be a real career buster.

I suspect his family/personal life is a rainbow of diverse activities. I may be wrong though. Personally, I don’t like effeminate men who are in positions of leadership.

ok, I don’t even know who Charlie Crist is other than what you just told me. But I still think McCain is weak in executive experience and needs someone who can shore him up in that area. Huckabee could, but I think both McCain and Huckabee has dismissed that as a likelihood.
