Explosion at Chatham County Sugar Refinery There was an explosion just after 7 p.m. at the Imperial Sugar Co. in Chatham County. Between 50 and 100 people were possibly injured. News 3 crews are on the scene. http://www.wsav.com/midatlantic/sav/home.html
I’m glad he’s OK and I know you’re grateful he changed shifts.
It sounds better than what was first expected, but its still pretty awful. I feel for my friends who work at Memorial right now.
Joining you in prayer Cindy.
Amen.
Local news says they’ve flown in trauma specialists from Augusta. 35 critically injured, 6-9 workers still missing.
They closed the Savannah River to ship traffic to search in case people had been blown into the river by the explosion.
Sounds very bad...they sent ambulances from all the surrounding counties, didn’t have enough in Savannah.
Jekyll is maybe 50-75 miles away. I’m between there & Jekyll & didn’t feel anything, but according to the news those within a few miles did.
Prayers up.
One thing the news people said. Tomorrow the hospital is going to set up for blood donations. Any healthy Freepers in the area should please consider making donation. Many injured will be needing blood products.
Prayers are going up.
Oh that's just horrible. What a terrible situation.
good news - they have opened the Savh River to ship traffic. Thank God no one was found in the river.
That is good news! Thanks for the update.
Thank you Shadowstrike.
I could not do better....so I'm echoing it to the heavens.
Leni
Prayers up.
Very sad.
Prayers for them all.
God does hear our prayers.

Augusta, GA —
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “So far, as many as 10 severely burned victims of the Imperial Sugar Refinery explosion in Savannah, Thursday night, are being helicoptered to Augusta.
They are being transported to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital.
As many as 100 people may be injured, according to officials at the scene. The explosion happened around 7:00 p.m.”
(gotta put down that book)
No word yet on the cause. Does anyone know if atmospheric sugar powder can explode in same way that dust in textile factories can explode.
"As far as we know, it was a sugar dust explosion," Imperial Sugar CEO John Sheptor said. The blast happened in a silo where refined sugar is stored until it is packaged, he said.
A lot of praying, and not much sleeping tonight.
