Raleigh A state audit has found that hundreds of people have used bogus Social Security numbers to obtain food stamps.
From July 2002 to last April, 1,906 people were receiving food stamps from the state Department of Social Services based on invalid Social Security numbers, the audit report stated. Another 1,237 food stamp recipients were using the Social Security numbers of dead people, according to the audit.
DSS security measures had previously disqualified 5,840 people from the food stamp program after determining they were using phony Social Security numbers, according to the audit.
The error rate was much less than 1 percent, which is an acceptable level, the audit report stated.

But but but these poor people need to eat so they can attend the colleges. Rolls eyes.
Congressman Billybob
No, a 0% rate is acceptable. I'm sure that's an impossibility, but at least it's a goal to aim for.
Come on pal.....there isnt any illegals in NC!
Really? Tell that to the victims. God these people make me sick!
Welfare loopholes found in Maryland
ANNAPOLIS Maryland paid welfare benefits to about 52,000 residents who in 2006 did not provide Social Security numbers or used invalid ones, according to a state audit of the Family Investment Administration. The report, completed by the state Office of Legislative Audits, also found the computer software used to check eligibility for the federal food-stamps program and the state cash-assistance program could not check 90 percent of the recipients. The administration paid out $488 million from July 2006 to June 2007....
Why, oh why, do so many "good ol' boys" down there vote Democrat in state and local elections, when all its brought them is licenses for felons, food stamp fraud, and the 10th highest tax burden in the US?
Prey tell who would use someone else’s SS#. Could they be illegal?
Because to many dam yankees from the narth est are moving in.....
Is there anyone in jail yet?
Beta me to it by a nano second ! :)
*snort* This is news to these people? Folks have been doing this since the advent of Food Stamps. It's also how one person collects multiple welfare payments, using several different SS numbers to get welfare for each of those 'people'.
Probably not, we've had our own homegrown welfare cheats for decades. My Mama was a transcript clerk at a university in MS, 35 years ago, and told me of a call she received once from a woman who wanted an unofficial copy of her transcript. When Mama got her SS#, it didn't show that she'd graduated, only that she'd taken a couple of classes. Then the woman gave Mama a different name and SS#, and there it was. The woman had two SS# and had forgotten which one to use. Mama kept both numbers and called the local Soc. Sec. Admin. office. They basically said "ho-hum". Mama was furious!
Cut ‘em off and arrest ‘em for fraud. If they’re illegal aliens, beat ‘em within an inch of their lives and send ‘em home. If they’re not, send ‘em to Sherrif Joe and let them work REALY REALLY hard for their food...
Libs’ attitude toward the poor is that we are required to provide for their needs.
However, when we see someone buying better food with foodstamps than we are with our EARNED cash, we DO have the right to be resentful.
We also have the right to be resentful when said foodstamp purchaser has perfect hair and nails, the latest iPhone, and puts his/her groceries in a new Escalade.
Route 13 is like the Alice in Wonderland tunnel from N.C. to NJ/NY.
Bars and strip joints all along the road. Young men in colors piled in the cars with N.C. plates.
N.C. kinda fell off the radar news wise when the black market cigarette ring was exposed and connected to the Michigan and Lackawanna cell. But I do remember food stamps being mentioned on the black market then too when that was in the news.
Why doesn’t this surprise me?
