above-average intelligence in Ashkenazi Jews those of northern European heritage resulted from natural selection in medieval Europe, where they were pressured into jobs as financiers, traders, managers and tax collectors.
Those who were smarter succeeded, grew wealthy and had bigger families to pass on their genes, they suggested. That evolution also is linked to genetic diseases such as Tay-Sachs and Gaucher in Jews.
The new study was funded by the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Aging, the Unz Foundation, the University of Utah and the University of Wisconsin.

I’m going to go read this article but first I wanted to type up this thought:
Great intelligence is only a big advantage if your civilization has advanced far enough that laws protect the weak. That has been the case in Europe for maybe the last 1000 years.
Without the protection of the state, being smart but not a big strong fighter is a dead end.
This could explain why human intelligence has evolved so quickly in modern Europe.
That reminds me of my family. I have a funny story. My ancestors came to this country (the US) from Scotland during the famines. My great great great great grandmother (I’m pretty sure it was 4 greats) was brought over and had to pay for her passage by working in a textile factory. She had bright red hair, and my grandmother told me she was VERY attractive. Anyway, she worked in the factory for 4 days before one of the factory owners walked by and saw her, and they were soon married! So my grandmother jokes that our family were indentured servants for all of 4 days.
Also through the centuries Jewish marriages have mostly been arranged marriages. So family A wants their smart and capable son to marry a similar girl from family B. The smart and capable married and bred with the smart and capable
Are you proposing that a person's soul is simply their personality?
Or able to get a big strong fighter to protect you. Attractive women seem to be quite good at this.
In a previous point I tried to make the same point. The personality and intelligence aspects that may help one become a highly successful computer software inventor in today's America are unlikely to have been a competitive advantage in 1000 AD France.
This is bad. Fortunately, humanity is set to become more and more homogeneous as travel becomes cheaper and global communications increase--this is where some freepers go this: or this: .
.
Most ‘lactose intolerant’ people can drink a glass or two milk without side effects. It’s when they drink a lot that there is indigestion.
And, of course,
ACTING !
Are you jealous?
(can imagine that the smileys are getting on people's nerves--just trying to get the proper expression across).
My digestion is iron as is my will. I pity those tiny milkshake drinking, lactose intolerant peoples. My mustache drips milk as did my ancestors. From the howling winds of the north we descend, iron in our hands and milk in our bellies.
Blood alone moves the wheels of history! But I digress . . .
That might be a bit of a stretch--if you're taking that from accounts in the Bible (in which case you could also include Joseph in Egypt). The Bible showed Jews God used. The Babylonian leadership could have easily drawn plenty of people from other conquered peoples as part of their 'adviser staff,' but they weren't mentioned by nationality.
My Jewish ancesters smartly ran away from Stalin in 1920.
And from a Christian view, it could be pointed out that God gave the Jews (and Mankind) the Torah; the Jews didn't 'invent' the Old Testament.

Thus improving the gene pool, obviously, since you are a FReeper (certain exceptions apply, compliment not valid in New York or Hawaii, previously complimented FReepers not eligible, all good feelings required by 12/25/2007, see offer of compliment details for further restrictions).
Now are you making things up about what Creationists believe?
And again, macroevolution is a term recognized by many [Macro]evolutionists, though apparently you didn't get the memo....
Of the opinion that gingersnap is onto something. Might the gene not deactivate if it is still needed, and only deactivates after an extended amount of time without drinking/eating dairy? Just a question.
Of course we “recognize” it. It nevertheless was invented, and is primarliy used by, those Creationists who try to twist science since, it seems their faith is insufficient. It obfuscates that there is no biologically valid stop sign to the accumulation of beneficial and neutral mutations within sub populations of species.
