WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 Democrats in Congress failed once again Friday to shift President Bushs war strategy in Iraq, but insisted that they would not let up. Their explanation for their latest foiled effort seemed to boil down to a simple question: What else are we supposed to do?
Frustrated by the lack of political progress in Iraq, under pressure by antiwar groups and mindful of polls showing that most Americans want the war to end, the Democrats last week put forward a $50 billion war spending bill with strings attached knowing it would fail.
Like so many of the war-related measures that Democrats have proposed this year, the spending bill sought to set a timeline for redeploying American troops, and to narrow the mission to focus on counterterrorism and on the training of Iraqs security forces.
And, like so many of the war-related measures that Democrats proposed this year, it was approved in the House only to wither and die in the Senate, where on Friday it fell 7 votes short of the 60 needed to prevent a Republican filibuster with 45 senators voting to block the measure.
All signs indicate that Democrats will continue proposing such measures as long as Mr. Bush remains in office and troops remain in Iraq. We are going to keep plugging away, said Senator Carl Levin of Michigan, chairman of the Armed Services Committee.
Democratic lawmakers and strategists on Capitol Hill said their hope was that even if Republican support for Mr. Bushs strategy held firm, voters would reward Democrats for their efforts at the polls next November, and that there was no risk to failing again and again.
Some, including Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, the Democratic conference chairman, argue that Congressional Democrats are the only ones putting real pressure on...

I am afraid that the RAT Party and their leftwing enablers have resigned their citizenship.
What else are we supposed to do?
How bout getting behind the troops and supporting your country for a change.
Well if moveon.org is funding demoflops, they have to dance to moveon.org’s tune. It’s get out of iraq no matter what. soros is a smart egomaniac who wants to rule. We cannot allow that because he doesn’t even know what he wants, cannot explain it...but he can make money, so he can pull strings and it is the democrat’s strings that he is pulling.
“Democrats in Congress failed once again Friday to shift President Bushs war strategy in Iraq, but insisted that they would not let up. Their explanation for their latest foiled effort seemed to boil down to a simple question: What else are we supposed to do?”
You’re supposed to stuff a sock in it and let our troops fight the bloody war.
“Frustrated by the lack of political progress in Iraq, under pressure by antiwar groups and mindful of polls showing that most Americans want the war to end, the Democrats last week put forward a $50 billion war spending bill with strings attached knowing it would fail.”
Maybe if they pulled their heads out of their @$$, they might see this progress they keep demanding. And Americans wants the war to end in victory, you RATs.
‘Democrats in Congress failed once again Friday to shift President Bushs war strategy in Iraq, but insisted that they would not let up. Their explanation for their latest foiled effort seemed to boil down to a simple question: What else are we supposed to do? ‘
How about considering letting us win?
Just a thought.....
Al Qaeda and Muslim Terrorists would be infamous footnotes in history if Democrats and liberals would fight terrorism as hard as they fight President Bush.
No one can say that better, “...getting behind the troops and supporting your country for a change.” Good for you! I second your statement.
Thank you
There were those like Jane Fonda who opposed the US side in the Vietnam War because they wanted the North Vietnamese Communists to win. She was at that time an avowed naked Communist (now she is more closeted).
It isn’t a peace movement or an anti-war movement at all. They want our side to lose.
I agree. To me, war is a continual fighting, day in and day out. This is no longer a "war", but rather trying to set up a country, government and society, while a few thugs continue to try to stop it. But, we are not sending divisions, battalions, etc. into daily combat with opposing forces, fighting for every foot and inch. We have done that and accomplished that. We are fighting mostly now, like our own police does everyday in our own streets. I bet there is more going on in our various streets, shootings, murders, robberies, rapes, etc. on a daily basis than is happening in Iraq on a daily basis. Our troops WON the war. Now they have to establish the peace, which if graded against our own society, they are winning and we are losing at home. The Dims seek to make this look like Vietnam and it is not. We were fighting in Nam every day. Somewhere there was contact with enemy forces almost every day. Not in Iraq. You don't see footage of combat every day in Iraq like you did every day from Vietnam. It is not the same. We are winning in Iraq. The Dimocrats seek to make it different. People here are not against the war, they think the war is over and we are simply occupying Iraq like we did in Germany and Korea. I have not heard ONE, NOT ONE stinking person make a negative comment about THE WAR or Iraq, around here in 10 months or more. Everyone is going on with their daily lives. They are not thinking about THE WAR as the dims want you to think that everyone is ringing their hands over it every minute. Only Dims are. They are terrified that the word is getting out, THAT ARE TROOPS ARE WINNING AND HAVE ALREADY WON THE MAJOR WAR IN IRAQ!!! ALL SOCIALIST DIMOCRATS CAN GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!
‘It isnt a peace movement or an anti-war movement at all. They want our side to lose.’
Yes, they do. Its been the ‘normal’ stance of the Democratic Party since 1860.
Since the Iraqi Congress has accomplished more than Do Nothing Nancy’s, should we pull our Troops out of DC??
Pray for W and Our Amazing Troops
LOL!!!! The do-nothing-Congress frustrated by a lack of political progress in Iraq!!! LOL!!! Tickle me funny!
There, fixed it.
Your well reasoned analysis is 100% accurate.
The war is over.
The democrats lost.
It is a police action now, but not all that different from gang infested democrat party ruled hellholes such as Detroit or East Los Angeles.
Being invested in defeat, these socialist pacifists are downright evil. They do not and never have recognized true evil from the Communists to the jihadists today. They would , in winning in ‘08, will ruin the USA. Period. There will be a huge downturn in morality, culture , our heritage and liberties if these Leftists win.
Fixed it.
You could be right. But it's treason for craven political purposes. The dems think they score more with a defeat than with a win. I'm suggesting that America would be better off if we changed the calculus for at least a portion of the dem leadership by letting them pretend they had something to do with our success in Iraq and NOT calling them on it.
They are perfectly capable of shifting like this. When they thought they won by supporting the Iraq war, they voted to authorize it. Then they switched as the political calculus changed as the war dragged on. We need to change the political calculus in their greedy little minds.
