Voting delegates at the debate voted before the debate and again afterwards.
Huckabee picked up 100 votes from before to after, winning overall with 63 percent of the vote.
I think you underestimate the damage he did to himself by not showing up. Many of these conservative groups will now start supporting Huckabee’s candidacy while Thompson by skipping the debate has firmly taken his place with Rudy T. McRomney.
Yeah, that was brilliant! I especially liked the guy who said to Romney, "I see you've lost some weight." At that point I lost it!
That's the public for you. They believed every lie he told tonight. These folks need a preacher not a president. I give up.
Well, there's a shock!/sarc.
A baptist minister "wins" the poll at a family values debate. MEMO: It takes a lot more to be a federalist, right wing, limited Government adherent than believing in Jesus and being pro life.
It might be a good start, but there are plenty of Big Gubmint religious folks. The goals may be different than the Socialists, but they embrace Big Government just the same.
Ducks, chickens, quite a farmyard menagerie either way you look at it. :)
But I would bet that if you did a survey of the base a couple of weeks from now, well over 75% of the wouldn't have even heard of this debate.
We may be switch on to what's happening, but I suspect it's still way too early for the majority of the base.
DS, you’re absolutely right.
A month ago, Thompson had many big-name social conservative pro-family leaders wrapped up. Then threw it all away with his stupid “let all 50 states come up with different definitions of what marriage is” position.
Blew it big-time.
And Huckabee is the only other candidate pro-family leaders are even open to supporting.
You must be pretty bitter about that. It shows.
I looked on Direct TV for the debate and couldn’t find it, so I’m dependent on this thread for what happened. The post I quoted said “legislate.”
What the question leaves unsaid is that all Christian chaplains are permitted to pray any way they want in worship services.
It is only a public ceremonies (not services) that they are asked by commanders to render “neutral” prayers due to “captive audiences.” Commanders are wrong for doing so. They have 2 courses of action:
1. Do not have Chaplains pray at military ceremonies.
2. Accept that different religions do things in differt ways. The Jewish chaplain, the Muslim chaplain, and the Christian chaplain will all pray differently. Grow up. Get over it.
In his defense he is running on scrapping the IRS and replacing it with the FAIR Tax that will cut the size of government. Since he seems to have changed his view on Immigration I think he would be a candidate that I could support if he becomes the candidate that the social conservatives rally behind.
What it will do is generate a page 6 story and make some comment that Huckabee is firmly in control of the 2nd tier.
Nope, the bitter ones are those who’s candidate was a no-show, but then get on the thread to say how much it “doesn’t matter”, quoting RATsmussen media polls, and trashing the candidates who did show up.
But that lady at the very end of the post-debate segment, droning on and on, flailing her hands, sure talked a lot. Sheesh. Take a breather!! (not talking about Phyllis Shafly here).
That’s Janet Folger.
No offense here, but she’s a little bit nutty.
You need some Kleenex? You sound as if you are about to cry when the truth is mentioned. I can hear the whine from here.
So a church pastor can talk weekly about how war is wrong and immoral and how Christians should not support the war on terror, should not suppor the death penalty.
To be fair, since the church I attend is very politically divided, we have had church debates on abortions, war, health care, euthanasia, ect. However they are conducted by church members, and not the minister.
Alright, now you've really started a heated debate. What are you saying exactly? You don't like Andy, Opie and Barney Fife?
That's like saying you don't like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Please 'splain Lucy. (Or do you not like her either?)
Got any examples?
