He plans to take part in some of the debates, but not all of them.

Well I sure hope he plans to attend "some" of the debates. That would be kind of him. I have no use for a candidate that won't debate fellow Republcians for whatever reason - scared, arrogant, etc Its part of the process to get practice for the real debates later with Hillary. So far I'm underwhelmed with Fred's big splash on the scene.

One has to wonder if they dismiss their fellow respected republicans that much, how little they must think of us peons.

I like Alan Keyes but there are already a couple of great conservatives in the race and he only dillutes the vote further.

Perhaps that's what his entrance into the race was designed to do?

I don’t understand it, either. All the candidates were invited to the Eagles rally, but only Duncan Hunter found the time to attend.

Well - Mike Huckabee just won the straw poll with a blowout. Really interesting statistics showing that he picked up over 100 delegates during the evening. This will probably be a huge boost for his campaign because people like Janet Folger are going to start strongly supporting his candidacy.

Hi Aunt Bee. You were my favorite Mayberry character. Andy Griffith and Ron Howard stole your thunder.

Let me put it to you in different way...I'm just a jackass with a modem and have no idea what God wanted...and neither do you.

FRegards.

The base will know they ducked out. I think “chickened out” is more appropriate.

They are saying the same thing about Hillary now. What's your point? Pre-nomination Kerry led the Dims, just like Thompson is now.

Only difference is Thompson will win it all.

Thank you, exactly my point. Glad we agree. And, it’s AuntB, not Aunt Bee. Never confuse me with those unfortunate people.

Duncan Hunter said the China is becoming a superpower. Hunter is the only one who thoroughly understands the China threat.

Here’s an excerpt of an interview:

http://blog.barofintegrity.us/2007/09/04/duncan-hunter-interview-with-hugh-hewitt.aspx

“Hugh Hewitt interviews Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter at the Texas Straw Poll before the results came in—Hunter won with 41% of the vote...

Transcription:

Hugh Hewitt: Any member of the media or any of the debate ask any questions that haven’t been asked yet?

Duncan Hunter: You know Hugh, I would like them to ask about the long term prospects for opportunities for this next generation. Good job prospects. That is a question that begs for analysis of what we are doing with our trade policies where we are pushing American industry off shore. We are sending lots of manufacturing and high paying jobs to China. You have a lot of people on Wall Street selling those jobs out. They mark up the difference between $25 - $30 per hour to an American vs. a $1.00 per hour to somebody in China. And they move the company.

We are going to need to level that playing field, so that Americans, the next generation of Americans, those great kids coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq, have the same good job opportunities that we had.

snip

Duncan Hunter: No, you know what we are talking about actually is reversing what China has got which is protectionism. Right now, if we send a good to China, they hit us with a 17% tax at the water’s edge. When they send their products to the United States their government subsidizes every product they send over by cheating on trade. The devalue their currency 40% below where it should be. That undercuts on every American product. They know they are doing it. The head of the Federal Reserve Board, Ben Bernanke, knows they are doing it. He said as much. Yet we have allowed them to continue to do it.

One thing that a President does, is enforce trade rules. I am going to enforce trade rules. I am going to stop China from cheating on trade. If we have to use counter veiling duties we are going to do that. But we are going to keep them from enmassing these 100s of billions of dollars, some of which they are using to buy weapon systems. And the difference between China and Japan is this, Japan is a military ally. Not a robust ally, not one that comes to Iraq or Afghanistan with lots of help. But China is a potential adversary and certainly one that has conflicting interest. The idea that American dollars that are being used to buy missile destroyers from the Russians which were designed to kill American aircraft carriers and buy and build ballistic missiles some of which are aimed at our cities does not make good policy.”

To be honest, if my preacher did start taking a political stance at the pulpit

So, as an instance, a preacher cannot talk against abortion, homosexuality, creationism, and etcetera, all of which are highly political issues- A preacher cannot urge his flock to insist that these issues are resolved in our country? This is tantamount to a gag on the church.

I've been interested in this Declaration of War issue since I was 17, long ago.

I've come around to the following understanding:

Congress, when it declares war, does so as our surrogate, so it is in fact the People of the United States, acting through our representatives in Congress assembled, that are declaring war.

The President cannot do this. No matter how much LBJ wanted it to be true, it wasn't true. And it isn't true now.

Here's what's missing:

"...the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on was against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States."

All the resources of the country.
