WASHINGTON: Republican presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo says the best way he can think of to deter a nuclear terrorist attack on the US is to threaten to retaliate by bombing Islamic holy sites.
The Colorado congressman on Tuesday told about 30 people at a town hall meeting in the state of Iowa that he believes such a terrorist attack could be imminent and that the US needs to hurry up and think of a way to stop it.
If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina, Tancredo said at the Family Table restaurant.
Because thats the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they otherwise might do, Tancredo said in comments recorded and posted on the Web site iowapolitics.com.
A Washington-based Islamic civil rights and advocacy group responded in anger on Thursday, calling Tancredos statement unworthy of anyone seeking public office in the United States. Perhaps its evidence of a long-shot candidate grasping at straws and trying to create some kind of a controversy that might appeal to a niche audience of anti-Muslim bigots, said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

You say that likes it’s a bad thing.

If NYCity, Chicago or Colorado Springs were nuked or dirty bombed by terrorists, I would expect the POTUS to retaliate. In that regard, Tom Tancredo is talking about making what is, the right decision. Nothing wrong giving an ultimatum to your enemy. The Islamic world lives under rules based on holy edict from Mohammad. We Americans have our own set of rules based on freedom and liberty.
The enemies of freedom and liberty must understand. Attack America and you will pay the consequences.
Since you support the abortionist liberal RINO, Rudy Giuklinai for POTUS, I would advise FReepers not take your opinion as serious.
Tancredo is on the right about this issue. You are the clueless one.
Since you support the abortionist liberal RINO, Rudy Giuklinai
Who says I support him?
“I support the rightward most viable candidate.”

Oh, come one now. There is only one Valin I know of on FR. Btw, if you didn't notice that pro-Giuliani thread was pulled for promoting an abortionist for POTUS, who happened to have the last name of, Giuliani.
Our forefathers took up arms over much less. Weve been sadly conditioned to be soft, pliable, and easily influenced. Our children are taught in public schools that America is bad, God is dead, guns are evil, were descended from monkey droppings, and that surrender is the best option. And we wonder why we have no collective nerve?
All the while, were distracted by on-demand entertainment garbage, satisfying every greedy whim we can muster. Lulled to sleep by ones in partnership with those who have sworn to destroy us.

More excellent points, in my view. Thanks.
Thanks.
So, does it qualify as black humor?
Lots of people agree with you.
We shall see who’s hypothesis covers the most data points in the future.
LOL...I don’t know what black humor is...
Please see post #79 to this thread for my response.
Ditto. It’s gonna happen eventually imo and I hope we’re the ones that initiate it. I sincerely hope we’re not the ones who suffer astronomical casualties after the fact.
ITA. I don’t think the USA will do it though.
I don’t think we do either. And that worries me. I think it will eventually come down to individual fights so I thank God for our second amendment rights.
True. Gabrielle something (can’t recall her last name at the moment but she’s the author of Because They Hate) also speaks out on this.
Some understand Islam and the Muslims and speak out. We find it futile most of the time. It’s an uphill battle.
Robert Spencer understands what this war is about.
Nope. First and foremost, there's a huge body of theology in all religions devoted to the subject of why bad things happen to good people. Second, Muslims don't believe that you can just walk around telling God what to do. It didn't work during the witch trials of the Middle Ages, it won't work now. Third, it can quite easily be turned on its head, e.g. "If God is so powerful why did He not stop 9/11, or the Holocaust, or the Spanish flu epidemic?"
Perhaps most important, though, and definitely most pertinent to this discussion, is that you guys are waaaaaaay overestimating the importance of the physical city of Mecca, as well as the Kaaba and the Black Stone, to Muslims. Yes, it is their most sacred city/mosque/meteoroid. That doesn't change the fact that it's just a physical object. God does not live in Mecca. You cannot kill Him by nuking Mecca.
Also, incidentally, the whole "pigs are to Muslims as garlic is to vampires" idea is ridiculous. Muslims are not supposed to eat pork. That doesn't make pork some kind of anti-Islam biological weapon, it just means that if a Muslim eats a strip of bacon, s/he has committed a minor sin.

Muslims are so invested in Allah being on their side which is why Israel is such a conundrum for them. Secondly the traditions in our country teach us that bad things do happen to good people which is why we just didn’t fold up and fall in on our-selves when 9/11 occured. In other words our religious traditions tell us that God does allow bad things to happen just as they declare that governments exist to bear the sword to bring order among evil doers. Even the Jihadist Muslims were quite taken aback by our responses to 9/11.
The Jihadist Muslim can’t accept that notion that they are on the losing side, nor can they accept the notion of a Jewish state which gives the lie to their own religion. They can’t live with internal cognitive dissonance. We of a Christian tradition might declare that an unresolved question be left in “God’s Hands”! Jews might state, “When Elijah comes, he will decide”. The Muslim extremist can’t leave the question alone, for them they must fight and conquer for only then will their outer world match their inner destorted vision, and only then will they be(they surely reason) at peace with Allah.
The book of Habbakuk might give us some guidance as to the reason for such a threat to the world. The prophet was told...”See, I am raising up the Chaldeans to be a scurge for Israel”. Israel had plunged into a time of corruption and moral degradation, the desciptions of which were not unlike our times. Our society has become morally decadent and weakened and we have lost our Christian vision. We are being ‘scurged’ and I pray we will recover our vision and repent lest these Muslims beome our masters! There is no reason for us to succomb to such monsters, we have force of arms....but if we have no national re-awakening of our moral vision, then we are lost and our corrupt leaders and educators will give up with nary a shot fired!
“The Jihadist Muslim cant accept that notion that they are on the losing side”
They’ve had no choice but to accept that for over a dozen centuries, ever since the assassination of Uthman, the Islamic Civil War and resulting usurpation of power by the Umayyads, and the breakup of the Caliphate. Muslims are quite used to things not going as planned, because, as with every group of people, they’ve had their fair share of hardships and failures. The end of the Islamic Golden Age was far more faith-shaking than some mere physical attack on a physical location could ever be. Indeed, it would probably be faith affirming, since it would validate, beyond so much as the least shadow of a doubt, that the West is at war with Islam, and that their decline over the last few centuries a decline to which Salafism directly traces its roots is the fault of some sinister external force, rather than any fault on their part.
Capt. Kirk, if unwilling to use the phasers, would have beamed the whole thing into the sun. Although much more difficult and expensive in casualties without Scotty's transporter, the end result IS technically possible today and probably would be theologically confusing. However, the rock was stolen once in the past and resided in Bahrain for 20+ years before being returned. Islam survived that. So we should be careful when contemplating what our logic says should be a decapitation attack on a religion. Their logic might not work the same way.
