In an interview published in today's New York Times Sunday Magazine, Kristin Gore, daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, claims the Gores were 'under siege' by 'bussed in' protesters outside the Vice President's residence in Washington, D.C. during the 2000 presidential election Florida recount as Gore fought to win the presidency from then Texas Governor George W. Bush.
Gore says the protesters' cries of "Get Out of Cheney's House" (a reference to Bush's vice presidential nominee, Dick Cheney, who would take residence there upon being inaugurated) drove her mother, Tipper, to play nature sounds on a CD player to distract the family from the sounds of the protesters.
Contrary to the claim by Kristin Gore that the protesters were bussed in, they came of their own volition and either drove or took public transportation there. The protests were initiated, organized and led by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic.
Below is an excerpt from the Times interview with Gore:
Have you met President Bush and Laura?
No, I never met them during the 2000 campaign, and since then, the invitations have been lost in the mail, Im afraid.
How often do you think back to the 2000 election and the legal fight over the counting of the ballots?
As little as possible. If I ever do dip into that, it doesnt go anywhere good.
Were you living with your parents during that period?
Yes. I took a leave of absence from Futurama, and I was home for the 36 days because I felt pretty useless as a comedy writer. They bussed in people who stood outside screaming, Get out of Cheneys house.
This was outside the official vice presidents residence, where your family lived for eight years?
Yes, it wasnt really a great atmosphere, but my mom maintained a sense of humor about it. She was making jokes about Noriega and turning up the stereo to drown out the chants.
I trust she wasnt playing rap music, in light of her crusade against profane lyrics. She would play all kinds of music and those nature sound CDs, which were supposed to fool us into thinking we were in the rain forest instead of in a house under siege.
Nope! But did you know that John Kerry was a Vietnam war hero? Thats right....
You think?
Get a Clue-O-Rama airhead. It appears she's still writing comedy because I'm ROFLMAO.
I thought the Dims were all for busing people.
As I remember my throat hurt the rest of the week, but I was ready for the next weekend.
Someone like the picture of Gores daughter called me a Fascist. I called her a socialist and did she jump.
Remember the free coffee, hot chocolate, from the guy that stopped by!
Next time I going to Radio Shack for a bull horn.
My phone's breaking up...
Yeah, "bussed in" alright.
I knew long ago that Gore was nuts. Within a few weeks after moving into the mansion reserved for the vice-president he took a walk in the adjoining woods and got lost for hours.
Shortly after that while touring Montecello with President Bill he asked the curator who those men were while pointing to two statues of Washington and Jefferson..
Tipsy has always been rather a nutty appearing woman who would stand on a stage while her sweaty husband shoved his tongue down her throat.
Gores, Clintons, all ready for the straitjacket.
Yah. The Florida protests in 2000 were spontaneous as well, grass roots. They outnumbered the Dem protestors 20 to 1. And the Dems came in a van . . . and were union people. Completely bogus, probably somehow getting paid for the day. So the Dems, since they have phony bussed in protests, just assume that when Repubs take to the streets that it isn't grass roots.
I'm betting it was a Loon.
waaaaa .....waaaaaa ....call the wambulance ....
Was coming home from one of the weekly “Support Bush” rallies we held on the Plaza in Kansas City during the recount.
Heard on the news on the way home there was a gathering of people in DC shouting for Gore to “get out of Cheney’s house.”
Was so excited and was almost jumping up and down in the car because I just knew it had to be the DC FReepers.
I was there. Odds are they never saw us.
We drove ourselves there. This girl is a stupid as her father.
NOT A SINGLE BUS! We all came on our own!
First, nobody kissed me at these events. Second, I drove myself in. Pubbies aren't nearly as good as dems in renting mobs.
I understand you guys weren’t doing anything to other neighbors what her problem LOL!
