Gore's Daughter Claims Family Under Siege During "Get Out of Cheney's House!" Protests
Sunday, June 24, 2007 | Kristinn

In an interview published in today's New York Times Sunday Magazine, Kristin Gore, daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, claims the Gores were 'under siege' by 'bussed in' protesters outside the Vice President's residence in Washington, D.C. during the 2000 presidential election Florida recount as Gore fought to win the presidency from then Texas Governor George W. Bush.

Gore says the protesters' cries of "Get Out of Cheney's House" (a reference to Bush's vice presidential nominee, Dick Cheney, who would take residence there upon being inaugurated) drove her mother, Tipper, to play nature sounds on a CD player to distract the family from the sounds of the protesters.

Contrary to the claim by Kristin Gore that the protesters were bussed in, they came of their own volition and either drove or took public transportation there. The protests were initiated, organized and led by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic.

Below is an excerpt from the Times interview with Gore:

Have you met President Bush and Laura?

No, I never met them during the 2000 campaign, and since then, the invitations have been lost in the mail, I’m afraid.

How often do you think back to the 2000 election and the legal fight over the counting of the ballots?

As little as possible. If I ever do dip into that, it doesn’t go anywhere good.

Were you living with your parents during that period?

Yes. I took a leave of absence from “Futurama,” and I was home for the 36 days because I felt pretty useless as a comedy writer. They bussed in people who stood outside screaming, “Get out of Cheney’s house.”

This was outside the official vice president’s residence, where your family lived for eight years?

Yes, it wasn’t really a great atmosphere, but my mom maintained a sense of humor about it. She was making jokes about Noriega and turning up the stereo to drown out the chants.

I trust she wasn’t playing rap music, in light of her crusade against profane lyrics. She would play all kinds of music and those nature sound CD’s, which were supposed to fool us into thinking we were in the rain forest instead of in a house under siege.

NEVER FORGET November 2000

While the GORES were busy attempting to steal the 2000 Presidential Election in Florida our SORE-LOSERMAN Freep demonstrations popped up there and all over the country to keep them from doing so in silence.

So effective were we Freepers demonstrating outside CHENEY’s House, outside where the Florida votes were being re-counted (and Military Votes invalidated) and outside the Los Angeles Federal Building (before NBC TV Cameras) ...that the GORES were eventually beaten down.

The media was told by the GORES that we Freepers were organized and paid by the National Republican Party to do what we were all actually doing for FREE. And the media ran with this deception anyway.

Now the GORES are telling us through the New York Times that we were BUSED out to these Freeps..?

NUTS.

See the true power of our Freedom loving Freeps ..done just for the LOVE of it:

Thanks for sharing... and that’s the “crowd” they presented above the fold in the WashComPost the next day making it sound like there were an equal number of Gore Supporters to our Freepers! I only have one thing to say to the Washington Post: “Sore Loserman!”

‘bussed in’ protesters

Actually my wife dropped me off on the corner and I caught the Metro home. It was great fun and the rain kept all the liberals home except for a handful of hardcore nutjobs.

"Within a few weeks after moving into the mansion reserved for the vice-president he took a walk in the adjoining woods and got lost for hours."

I remember their elderly dog got lost too, and was found wandering somewhere in D.C.

Has your father vetted the book? He didn’t vet it in the sense of trying to influence the content, but he always has helpful advice. He’s a fantastic fact-checker.

Snicker. He did so well checking facts in his 8 years with the Clinton administration, didnt he?

My post has nothing to do with the “Get out of Cheney’s House” chant. My post is a question. How come over the years we haven’t seen Gore and the rest of his family all outside playing touch football? Also Kerry? How come he isn’t tossing the football around going to and fro? How come both these gentlemen only played football (especially gore) when they were waiting for the election count? Also, has Gore been out lately with Senator Leiberman and his wife for a date night and ice cream? Remember that? I KNOW these people have to do things like that so others will think they are the same as past candidates but it is soooooooooooooooo silly and how in the world can they EVER think we could be fooled by the “touch football games.” Can anyone say: “Kennedy???”

Remember the free coffee, hot chocolate, from the guy that stopped by!

Yes, I do! The guy had a sign that said it was for Bush supporters only. Liberals get too many handouts. (Or something like that.)

I’m sorry, but I thought that was a little over-the-top, especially since even if there was no contest of the election, the place was theirs until inaugeration. Protesting in front of people’s residences, even if it happens to be provided by the taxpayers because of the nature of the job, just seemed mean to me.

I can understand how you feel about residences. But just like the White House, this doubles as a place of official business.

This was where Al Gore set up his command post and had all his strategy sessions to steal the election. He chose the field of battle. We didn't.

That was an incredible time in our nation’s history. We should try to correct the record. That was truly the power of the people.

A thing you don’t know is that Gore was calling frantically for Union Goons to show up and counter the Freepers. They couldn’t get in touch with them on short notice so it didn’t happen.

Amen Captain!

Getting Al Gore out of Dick Cheney’s house is an accomplishment the brave and tireless DC FReepers, FL FReepers and everyone who joined them can be proud of!

I was in DC a couple weekends ago. Alas, the tremendous thunderstorm kept my daughter and I from joining the Walter Reed rally that Friday. But Saturday night was just fine for a walk from the Metro to the Lincoln Memorial. Even though I lived in Maryland years ago, I had never been past the State Dept and Naval Observatory before.

As we walked down the street, I recognized it from the photos of those FReeper protests in 2000. Though I had FReeped Beelzebubba in New York and New Jersey, I longed to be there. Those were some days!

Did Ms. Gore ever consider the feelings of the Nixon daughters and grandchildren when she was writing those jokes?

Brilliant!

Gawd, I hope the self-righteous, artificial prig reads this! (but I'm sure she'll slap something else over it so she won't have to acknowledge the facts--learning from her mother!)
