“My husband works for the State of NY, They block FR too.”

Out of curiosity, do they also block DU?

Jim Robinson will need to contact these people to make sure his platforms are not considered porn.

WebMarshal support

What's happening is that your internet browser is being redirected (probably using WCCP protocol) to a proxy server using WebMarshal as a content filter database. Freerepublic.com has been miscategorized as a porn site.

Sometimes these guys share information so it would behoove anyone to contact a content provider to get their sites out of the porn category so as to ensure access.

Some other large content filter databases are as follows:
Websense (www.websense.com)
SmartFilter (http://www.securecomputing.com/index.cfm?skey=85)
Cerberian (www.bluecoat.com)

Many businesses now use blocking software that picks certain sites because they are deemed “objectionable” whether pornographic or politically incorrect. I think that is what has happened in reality.

Although I wonder if they are deeming DU objectionable?

I know a guy here in town who works at the local building supply place, and he is blocked from FR as well.

There are a lot of soft porn pictures being hot linked here on FR. The other day someone even hot linked to playboy.com.

My company uses Websense. It’s tough but never have had it block FR.

“I’d find out who runs the city of Dayton’s IT department and grill them. I bet true pornography like DU is allowed to pass...”

Indeed. Freerepublic.com was entered manually by their security administrator. My bet is he or she is a Kos-sack or a DUer.

It’s either because of the “I’d Hit It” threads or because we are way over our allowed quota of Helen Thomas and Rosie O’Donnell pictures. ;)

When a website has numerous links to porn or soft porn sites it will be flagged as a porn site by a strict filter. FR fits that definition.

While I personally object to such pictures, it is not in my place to raise a fuss about it. I am but a newbie and it ain’t my house to begin with.

My biggest complaint is the hot linking. That is bandwidth theft to begin with.

All I am trying to say is... stop knocking the filters. They are accurately doing their job. If you have a problem with them blocking FR then clean house internally over the hot linking issue.

Of course, if any place blocks FR because of the political content, then I object. But they most likely have the right to do so. Makes me mad, but so what? I want the same rights to control my own company.

Now if they block FR and allow DU? Both barrels baby!

Contact the Dayton airport and let them know in no uncertain terms that you are not amused by their blocking of a conservative web site like FreeRepublic. Yes, it is WebMarshal doing the blocking, but the airport authority is the paying customer. Perhaps they still care about serving their customers.

I take it they have CNN playing on all the TV monitors?
