Wow. I was sitting at Dayton Airport online after attempting to change my seat assignment unsuccessfully and then attempted to log on to FreeRepublic.com - twice (wireless and ethernet). Both times the same message appeared:
Access to http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/browse has been blocked by WebMarshal
Access to this site was blocked by the rule 'Block pornography'.
Your attempt to access this site has been recorded.
Contact your WebMarshal administrator if you need access to this site for business purposes.
Your Logon: DRIVERRI2
WebMarshal Server: PUBDCISA (Version: 3.7.3.1040)
A little poking revealed:
Physical Address: 00-18-DE-34-97-30 (wireless)
Physical Address: 00-15-C5-4D-4B-4D (ethernet)
Following the same for both:
IP Address: 10.79.5.23
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 10.79.1.1
DHCP Server: 1.1.1.1
Lease Obtained: 6/5/2007 12:12:40 PM
Lease Expires: 6/5/2007 1:12:40 PM
DNS Server: 10.79.1.1
WINS Server: 10.79.1.1
Anyone have any suggestions on how to contact the WebMarshal adminstrator who has designated FreeRepublic.com as pornography?

This sounds like hacker sabotage.

I’d find out who runs the city of Dayton’s IT department and grill them. I bet true pornography like DU is allowed to pass...

WebMarshal looks first at metatags > at page content, not specifically at URLs. There may have been active posts that had keywords that was flagged by WebMashal as pornographic.

NetNanny does the same for certain threads -- it's all a function of their filtering software, which typically operates by means of a keyword search, coupled with a database maintained by the service.
My guess is that you're triggering on keywords -- FReepers are a salacious lot.

"Maybe it was the thread about the Boost?" Or it could have been the Rudy threads, with all the cross-dressing pictures. That's what the Rudybots were saying, after all.
