That’s funny. When he told me he couldn’t bring up FR, I experimented and sent my husband urls to test. Originally, they blocked dKos and FR, but not DU. Eventually, DU got filtered too. He can bring up Yahoo news, but he cannot bring up Yahoo mail. I use an old hotmail acct. to email him during the day and they started to block my emails until I raised holy heck. They fixed that problem. I think he told me that they’ve also blocked You Tube. I used to send him videos from Hot Air, but he can’t access them anymore.
It says:
The URL http://www.freerepublic.com is classified as
-Education
So, apparently somebody else must've complained already.
That would look much better if it was on black velvet.
Look! It’s a Velvet Pelvis!
“Id find out who runs the city of Daytons IT department and grill them.”
Agreed
“Indeed. Freerepublic.com was entered manually by their security administrator.”
How do you come up with that?
“My bet is he or she is a Kos-sack or a DUer.”
If so, like I said a bit ago. Both barrels baby!
“My guess is that you’re triggering on keywords — FReepers are a salacious lot.”
Yes. This is the biggest problem. It’s language and some images. If a few cleaned up their act, we’d be fine.
I was once approached by a lady in my homeschool support group...she was furious. I had previously given her the link to my personal webpage (one of those free websites, you know...supported with the occasional ad.) Anyway, she was really mad at me, because she had tried to access my website and her Christian-based web filter had stopped her...said my site contained pornography. WHAT? It was just pictures of my family!
I was mortified. I logged on and looked at my website...the only thing I could see that might’ve triggered her filter was an ad that said “Visit Exotic Cancun”
TRUTH IS pornography to leftists.
Some of which are network administrators and/or run ISPs.
Java problem maybe. FOX automatically refreshes itself (or used to anyway).
I suspect there are many different reasons why some of these adult content filters block FR from time to time.
I remember that NetNanny blocked FR in the early days, and I believe some public libraries and businesses did, too.
I suspect that at least some of the time this is a political decision by some leftist techie who figures that FR is a right-wing hate site.
Heck, Drudge pulled his link with FR many years ago, for what I think were bogus reasons, and has never restored it, although he continues to link to many highly questionable sites. For instance, he has long linked to North Korea, Pravda, and Xinua, and no one would take these links as a stamp of approval. They are just interesting connections to look at once in a while. Why FR should be treated differently, I don’t know.
In you IE tools under security is it set to high?
Some times it will block sites because some times the salty words and titles of thing posted!
Yes, but the list is created by using the original methods, although I certainly wouldn’t put it past them to be politically biased. Different companies use different filter lists and companies are free to choose from among them.
Sounds like some sniveling, liberal bedwetter in the Dayton airport’s IT department has gone into the political censorship business; pretty typical for the type. They can’t stand the thought of free political discussion that doesn’t agree with what they think. You probably wouldn’t have had any trouble at all getting onto Democratic Underground, Daily Kos, or the Huffington Post.
I was denied access to a church website one day. I used my password to turn off the monitoring software. The culprit was a frank discussion of human sexuality on the website but apparently one of the words used in the title identified the article as porn to the software.
That sounds like a DNS issue. Try manually going to FNC by IP address rather than URL by typing http:// and the IP address in your browser’s address bar, and see if that works. If it does, then you will know whether it’s a DNS issue.
It’s probably the same software glitch that is responsible for removing Conservative content from yahoo, youtube, google etc.
