While writing this, I received a return phone call from the communications director for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. She got back to me within five minutes of leaving the message.
Nicole Corcoran said that she was taken aback by my question. I had left the message that I am working on a freelance piece about the Sebelius/Dean/FreeRepublic/Quinn&Rose controversy. I wondered if her office would be willing to release the phone records for the time of the purported phone conversation with Dean.
Her initial comment was, "No one ever thought of that." As I pressed to see if she could get that done, she hesitated and flirted around the issue. The bottom line is that I suspect no phone records will be released. She commented that even if they were released, there would be people who wouldn't believe it and believe there was a secret backbone somewhere that wouldn't be revealed.
So, FReepers, there was the solution to solve it. If no call was made, it would seem that the Governor and Yeeeeeehaaaaaaa Howard Dean would be anxious to clear the record and press for FR and Quinn&Rose to acquiesce.
Will any of you be surprised if they refuse to release to phone records? Maybe they need time to sanitize them first.
“I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.”
doug from upland, doing the work that faux investigative reporters refuse to do. Thanks doug. Truth BUMP!
No wonder these people are terrified of wiretapping.
Excellent....
Well Done.
Hooray Doug! Thanks for the links. Thanks for your work!
I would not be surprised if the call took place mind you! I just don’t know who would leak it and have a motive to do so.
This makes me think it might have been communicated to her by email.
If it was the governor’s phone, paid for by state funds, would it not be public record? On the other hand if it’s her private cell phone, I’m saying it is not public record. Either way the Dems are scrambling to change the subject now!
CONTACT WITH THE DNC
I just spoke with Dag Vega at the communications office of the DNC and asked if they would release the phone records regarding the controversy between Chairman Dean and Quinn&Rose. (I like the term “Chairman Dean.” It sounds very Mao-like.)
The reaction was, “No, because there is no controversy on our end.” He added that no one has asked for the phone records to be released.
When he was asked if someone asked, would they be released, he would not answer a hypothetical. I did get him to say, however, that it would be unlikely.
“Okay, I continued, who would have to ask for them to be released?” He didn’t know. So, I asked him if I could make the request for them to be released. Yes, I could.
So, a request will be made. If there is no controvesy, and their strong statements stand, perhaps it is time to put up or shut up. If unsanitized phone records exist to prove that the conversation never took place, it would be fair for Quinn&Rose to issue an apology.
Tick tock, tick tock. We’re waiting.
“And making up stories like this, designed to turn the tragedy at Greensburg into some kind of political circus, is a shameful affront to the citizens of Greensburg and the citizen soldiers of the National Guard”
Then why’d you do it, Governor Sebelius?
Howard Dean called Kathleen on the morning after the tornado and told her what to say and how to blame Bush and the war in Iraq.
Wow. Whoda Thunk?
Google Ping!
I had the same thought. We know how they parse words.
“I would not be surprised if the call took place mind you! I just dont know who would leak it and have a motive to do so.”
Maybe somebody who didn’t finish all their Kool-aid and had a small pang of guilty conscience.
Another data point in my theory that many liberals are over-educated morons.
Wiggle room. I don't know that the call happened. We would like to know if it happened. What if a call was made that said to use the tornado in Kansas? If Greenburg was not the specific subject of the conversation, it is one of those "meaning of the word 'is'" things.
As of today Quinn and Rose are standing firm by their claims.. in spite of DNC threats.

Doug, you may want to ask if they're willing to say 'the accusation that I received *any communication* from anyone'...
So Google really has a bead on the story of:
“Howard Dean called Kathleen on the morning after the tornado and told her what to say and how to blame Bush and the war in Iraq”
Google on, brothers.
