RUDY: I'LL BE NEXT REAGAN
NY Post ^ | May 04, 2007 | Carl Campanile

Rudy Giuliani portrayed himself as the heir to Ronald Reagan at the first Republican debate last night, talking tough on terrorism - but struggling to present a clear and consistent position on abortion.

Giuliani, who strongly supported abortion rights during his eight years as mayor, said he would not object to the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision affirming abortion.

"It would be OK to repeal it," said Giuliani, who is courting key anti-abortion voters in the GOP primaries.

But he then added that "it would be OK also if a strict constructionist viewed it as a precedent" - meaning upholding Roe vs. Wade.

"I think the court has to make that decision - and then the country can deal with it."

Giuliani was the only one of the 10 candidates onstage at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif., to say it would be OK if Roe were upheld.

That’s what they’re all saying.

But here’s a test for you, Rudy. Reagan didn’t talk about himself nonstop or exonerate himself, or say he was the next this or the next that. He was concerned about THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY.

There is another president who cares about nothing more than “his Legacy”...I wonder who that could be?

“Rudy Giuliani portrayed himself as the heir to Ronald Reagan at the first Republican debate last night, talking tough on terrorism - but struggling to present a clear and consistent position on abortion.”

I suppose he’ll want to kiss my a$$ first... I’ll never vote for him.

Rudy’s entire being - wouldn’t amount to more than a pimple on Reagan’s ass.

It used to bug me when it was said that Bush was the next Reagan after only a couple of years in office. Rudy is at best 20 months from taking office, yet he’s now said to be the next Reagan.

There are things I like about Rudy but he’s at least ten years from me being able to accurately judge his presidency and I’m not convinced he’ll even get elected.

It's absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that JulieAnnie would claim ANY part of the Reagan legacy.

After all, after being asked if he was a Reagan Republican--he gave President Reagan 'the back of his hand' by responding, "I am a Republican".

HOW DARE A LIBERAL LIKE RUDY CLAIM ANY PART OF THE REAGAN LEGACY AFTER A SLAP AT PRESIDENT REAGAN LIKE THAT!!!

It shows how shameless Rudy is. It's outrageous,,,absolutely outrageous.

Didn’t Regan say all those who support abortion have been born? (or something to that effect? His stance on abortion alone makes Giuliani a lesser man.

Despite the other obvious differences, I would like to think that the biggest difference between you and Reagan will be that he got elected president and you didn’t.

We don't need another Reagan (which is good, because we won't be getting one, anyway). What we need is a leader who will be what Reagan was in his time, for our time.

Reagan helped bankrupt and dismantle the Soviet Union so we could live in peace with Russia and the former Soviet Republics. We don't need someone who will help reshape an enemy state--we need someone who knows we have an ideological enemy which will never be satisfied, and must be battled from now on.

Reagan signed an amnesty bill into law. People can spin that any way they like, but he did. We sure don't need that now.

Reagan fought to cut the budget, but instead ballooned the deficit and the national debt. We don't need that now, no matter how beneficial Reagan's tax policies were.

To spell it out for the dullards who will no doubt attack this post: I am NOT criticizing Reagan. He is one of our greatest presidents. I'm merely pointing out that we don't need "another" Reagan. Just as Reagan was an original, we need someone new on the scene who can deal with the new challenges facing us. Reagan's solutions were appropriate for the challenges he faced; they won't work now.

“...they won’t work now.”

Nor will Giuliani.......for those of us who wish to elect a true conservative.
