It will be interesting to see if it will work. The British in Malaya tried using native trackers to track down the Communist terrorists. They found that once out of their own territory, the trackers didn't do very well. Different vegetation, different soil, different animals, etc. all threw them off.

This is a silly idea and probably not true (at least for the American Army).
1. Afghanistan is not the SW desert of America.
2. OBL doesn't travel by horse or foot.
3. We already have expert trackers and hunters - They are called Special Forces Soldiers. They can also do things like call in Air Support, provide trauma care and infil by parachute.
4. Maybe, just maybe, as an embedded team member for a special circumstance - they may be useful
