This is a silly idea and probably not true (at least for the American Army).

1. Afghanistan is not the SW desert of America.

2. OBL doesn't travel by horse or foot.

3. We already have expert trackers and hunters - They are called Special Forces Soldiers. They can also do things like call in Air Support, provide trauma care and infil by parachute.

4. Maybe, just maybe, as an embedded team member for a special circumstance - they may be useful

I think the article implies that the unit will be training certain types of fieldcraft to the guys operating behind the lines. I didn't get the feeling that they will be doing the actual patrolling.
