Congressional action warranted: the Fourteenth Amendment stipulates that Congress has the power to enforce its provisions by enactment of legislation, and the power to enforce a law is necessarily accompanied by the authority to interpret that law. Therefore, an act of Congress stating its interpretation of the 14th Amendment, as not to include the offspring of illegal aliens, would fall within Congress's prerogative. The cost of educating illegal alien children in the nation's seven states with the highest concentration of illegal aliens was $3.1 billion in 1993(which with the growth of their population to 1.3 million, would be more like $5 billion in 2000). This does not take into account the costs of bilingual education or other special educational needs.

That phrase, "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is critical. For citizenship was not extended to Indians living on reservations. Not until the end of the Indian wars and acts of Congress in 1887, 1901, and 1924 was U.S. citizenship conferred on the Indians. Nor did the Amendment apply to children of foreign diplomats because even though born in the U.S., they were not citizens because they were not "subject to the jurisdiction thereof". Now every child born here to pregnant illegals, who sneak in or overstay visas, is entitled to a lifetime of benefits at the expense of U.S. taxpayers, including twelve years of free schooling. The parents stay to collect the benefits. When the child reaches 18, he can sponsor relatives coming in. How widespread is this racket? Immense. Unless Congress acts, the daily number of bankrupt school districts, insolvent hospitals and the elimination of emergency medical services to citizens, and social welfare costs will increase exponentially.

Most of this country is totally ignorant of what's going on. No clue about the cost of anchor babies, the TransTexas Highway, Mexican truckers, etc.. Plan A. seems to be working just fine. North American Union here we come.

I wish our government had the balls to admit what it is really up to which is to make the U.S., Mexico, and Canada into one country.

" including twelve years of free schooling. "
Add headstart and college too. Around here, they all seem
to perfer the trailer house over an apartment, think is has
to do with residency or ownership.
We also have swell welfare benefits the first day,
word travels fast, but as they soon find out the cold isn't
as appealing as the benefits.
I do like the folks, friendly,
good mechanics,
a shame they feel Mexico isn't good enoungh for them.

Birthright is in the Constitution. ANCHORING IS NOT. Change the law: Put the kid up for blind adoption by American citizens and kick the illegal parents out or let them renounce the kid's citizenship and leave together. Incentive gone. Problem solved. Supreme Court not involved.

Why did this even become an issue? A few years ago, a baby born in the US to illegal aliens was sent back to the parents' country of origin with the parents. The baby has the right to return when an adult. This anchoring scam is a new development.

This may seem far fetched but it's been documented by Lou Dobbs that U.S. citizen-felons are pretending to be Mexicans. They get a free trip to Mexico and then return to resume their life of crime. Pass "Go" and collect $200!

The baby has the right to return when an adult. This anchoring scam is a new development. I think this goes back to some judicial activism and Clinton Administration rulings that said you couldn't deny various benefits - health-care, education, welfare, food stamps, housing assistance because of citizen status (or at least were no longer allowed to ask the status). That's when the floodgates really opened.
