I was told earlier this evening that it's impossible for a conservative to win the general election against Hillary Clinton. That the socially liberal Rudy Giuliani is the ONLY Republican who can (a) beat Hillary and (b) win the war.
How many FReepers actually believe this hogwash? If we have no faith in our own conservative principles and values why do we call ourselves conservatives? How can we possibly hope to advance our conservative causes if we tuck tail and run when we should be fighting as if our very survival as a free people depends upon it. Because it does.
We cannot advance conservatism by running a social liberal for the office of chief executive. If you want proof, ask Arnie, the socially liberal Republican governor of California. No thanks. You can have him and the socialist horse he rode in on.
We cannot defend life, liberty or nation (see below discussion on securing borders) with a social liberal at the helm.
I'd like to build a winning conservative platform with a dozen or so hard hitting no nonsense points that we can all agree on that would help us focus on our best potential primary nominee and one that can defeat Hillary, et al, in the general.
Here's a starter list and it's open for discussion, cutting, consolidation, expansion and detailing:
Would a conservative platform focusing on victory in the war, national security, national defense, securing the borders, deporting illegal aliens, sound fiscal policy and defense of life, liberty, property and individual rights be a winner over Hillary's treasonous platform of surrender, weakness, open borders, socialist fiscal policies, "abortion rights," "gay rights," global warming, continued government abuses and subversion of our rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, right to keep and bear arms and private property rights?
Expanding on one issue, for example, I'm pushing for increased border security. I used to be in favor of some sort of temporary worker program, but not one that has a fast track to citizenship. I'm now coming around to the point of view held by the majority of Americans regardless of political party affiliation and that is we MUST secure the borders immediately. It's obvious that this war against Islamic fascism is going to grind on even after we put down the nasty business in Iraq. We must secure the borders against terrorist intrusion and infiltration. We must tightly control ALL immigration to the US.
It's also becoming more and more obvious that Americans are not happy with illegals taking jobs in an ever growing number of industries. They're no longer just doing field labor and or menial low paying tasks. They're creeping up the uskilled labor and union scale, only they're competing unfairly by accepting low wages and under the table payments.
We also need to seal the borders against drug smugglers, weapons smugglers, criminals, terrorists, etc. Catch them, try them and lock them up.
Americans are also tired of footing the bills for illegal alien health care, education, welfare, auto accidents, crime, disease, etc.
It's way past time to call a halt to this nonsense. I say we catch them at the borders and deport them. If we catch them again, place them in a work camp. If they want to work, fine, let them work in a work camp for their keep. Nothing more. And no illegal families or children or anchor babies. If it takes additional laws on the books, fine let's get it done. If it takes a constitutional amendment to stop the anchor babies, let's get the process started.
We should also catch and deport them when they show up at the DMV, voter registration or voting booth, unemployment line, bank, building permit office, welfare department, social security office, hospitals, free clinics, schools, jails, auto accident or traffic stops, etc. If they can't speak English and they don't have valid identification, then we need to hold them or call in the INS.
If we're going to secure the nation we must secure the borders, control immigration and stop pandering to the illegals or their enablers. Employers who willingly and knowingly hire illegals should be punished. If they pay their workers under the table and fail to withhold taxes or social security, they should be dealt with as felons.
So, we win the war, secure the nation, build our defenses, return to a sound fiscal policy, cut spending and taxes, and defend our rights.
How many states would go for this platform as opposed to Hillary's that is exactly opposite?
I think we'd even pull in California.
What say you?
I hear ya. Thanks.
Thank you Jim. I still remember the same pablum being sold about inn 1996 about Bob Dole, and that only he was electable and that no one else should apply. Giuliani makes Dole look like Jesse Helms.
Mobile is located in Alabama... I can name one canidate that did run on stopping illegal invasion from Alabama and won by a landslide.
He probable has a better voting record than even Duncan Hunter.
Can you be honest? The Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed the Prez was from Texas, I can say the same about you and Alabama.

If the French can elect a conservative, what makes us think we can’t?
I find it disturbing that folks seem unwilling to work to drive policies to the right. In the recent French elections the 85% of the electorate materialized to vote, they felt that strongly about the direction of their country.
The French are willing but the Americans are not?
Who would have thought that we would become the cheese(burger) eating surrender monkeys? Are we willing to let our soldiers fight and die around the world while we sit on our lazyboys and fail to protect our constitution and rights at home?
Bumped to breaking. Recycling this old thread.
I still say illegal immigration will be the most important issue in the 2008 election cycle, but now that the senate is running hell bent for leather in passing their amnesty bill, 2008 may be too late. We must fight like hell to block this abomination now!
And I also still believe that Giuliani must be ruled out by all conservatives concerned with pro-life and liberty issues. It should be clear to by now that Giuliani is simply an opportunistic power hungry liar who will say or do anything to grab the presidency. He would be just as dangerous for America as Hillary. Maybe more so, because he would have the support of a lot of Republicans as he moves his liberal causes.
We can defeat Hillary with a conservative. If we can’t we should fold up our tents and go home.
Thanks for putting up with my quirkiness.

970 WFLA RADIO DIRECT QUOTE RNC CHAIR/FLA SENATOR MEL MARTINEZ... "We must... the deal is already done." MM
It is a bloodless coup!
Jim, I with you on the conservative platform. I don’t believe that we have to catch and deport illegals, however. I think we can move them across the border the same way the Mexicans did it. If we make it a felony to knowingly or negligently hire an illegal alien, and make the punishment mandatory jail time and a fine of not less than $25,000 per offense, the jobs will dry up and most of them will leave (either north or south) the same way they got here.
(I just had a thought: If socialized medicine is so great, why do the illegals stop here instead of going on to Canada?)
I’d add a larger dash of “morning in America” and go a little lighter on the angry exclamation points.
Not if people were really conservative, they’d vote for a REAL conservative....

I think they are now.
I know, as conservatives, we are suppose to be the optimistic bunch, but today’s current climate concerns me. What is happening now in regards to immigration and the border, reminds of what I have read concerning slavery and the lead-up to the Civil War. People saying it can’t be done, leaders too cowardly to lead, compromises that cause more friction than solve a problem. I agree with your twelve points but in order to achieve any of these, conservatives need an articulate individual who believes in life. And that person needs a spouse who believes in life. I’m sorry, but if the spouse believes their is a Constitutional womens right to choose, than the candidate will swing to the spouses viewpoint. Anyway, a good list and I think the only one who can do this is Fred Thompson.
Maybe. Maybe it has never been argued or explained correctly. Maybe if the purpose of immigration is explained in the sense that it is not meant solely to keep certain people out of the country but certain things out of the country. Like disease, plants, insects, animals, etc. Also, explain border security as a means to protect the nation. As long as Repubs/conservatives are forced into the trap of trying to explain away they are not racist, than I agree - immigration will be a loser platform.
I so totally disagree. In fact in the privacy of the voting booth it's the SINGLE issue that is almost guaranteed to gather a lot of votes from grassroots working man democrats. I'm not speaking of the "activist" sort of radicals, but the farmers and the factory workers and carpenters that are seeing their wages decreased. Even wealthy upper class RATs are terrified of the surge in crime brought about by the illegals. They may have to stay quiet on the stage of their party but in the privacy of the voting booth it's another matter. Kind of like the Reagan landslide in 1980. On this single issue alone (Sean Hannity said this) Tom Tancredo could become President.
I keep hearing this and I can't help feeling we are being set up for a rope-a-dope. That she will win in the primaries and become known as the comeback kid. Remember that - from 92?
Exactly Mr. Jim. I find it interesting how many folks refuse to believe it. I guess it depends upon if you lived through the VietNam era, or you were "taught" about it.
I lived through it, and I never want that to happen again!
I do not like Newt for the sole fact he is more than willing to compromise with Hillary concerning health care. He is a good idea man but sucks as a leader. I think the next big thing that catches his fancy will keep his eye off the ball. That plus he is a recent convert to the global warming and green movement crap.
So did I, here in Miami FL. But the whole sheBANG is run on such a shoestring budget that they don't even have coordinators for my state and it's one of the crucial swing states! I'm very much afraid that he'll never get enough financial traction to compete. I also have to say that if Fred Thompson gets in, I'll jump ship in a heartbeat.
