Note the difference between the WSJ's editorial on April 8, 2005 and its editorial now, as seen in the Jan. 7, 2007 editorial posted below. Where is the WSJ's apology for its April 8, 2005 editorial?

REVIEW & OUTLOOK
The Berger File
Sandy Berger didn't destroy documents with notes in the margin.

Some people won't let a bad conspiracy theory go. We're referring to those who loudly assert that former NSC adviser Sandy Berger was trying to protect the Clinton Administration when he illegally removed copies of sensitive documents from the National Archives in late 2003.

The Berger Files
The case of the purloined archives gets stranger all the time.

The more we learn about Sandy Berger's brilliant career as a document thief, the clearer it becomes that there is plenty we still don't know and may never learn. On Tuesday, the House Government Reform Committee released its report on Mr. Berger's pilfering of classified documents from the National Archives.

Why isn't anyone raising the obvious question - Bill Clinton gave Sandy Berger specific instructions to remove certain classified documents from that file in the National Archives; Why isn't Clinton being held accountable on this?
I'd like to hear an apology from Mort Kondracke, too. On Brit Hume's show, he was wagging his finger at those who thought Sandy Berger would compromise the 9/11 committee by intentionally stealing documents. Mort?
Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING
Did they?
Didn't they?
I fear we will never know the truth about this.
The Wall Street Journal actually published an op-ed piece by Sandy Berger -- within the last 6-12 months -- on some issue related to national security.
I found myself wondering what freakin' planet I was on, and why the hell any respectable media outlet would give such a shady, disgraced character (and convicted felon to boot) a forum to make his irrelevant points of view public.
When I couldn't answer that question, I swore I'd never read the Wall Street Journal again for as long as I live.
I have no respect for Sandy Berger, but Richard Nixon, who I do respect, was reviled as a crook, yet he was published many times after he left the presidency.
VGQ.*
*Very Good question.
Anyone who hired Richard Nixon to write an article about ethics in government would be laughed out of business.
Burlarboy was hired by some hedge fund/private equity shop a year ago...the article was no doubt planted by that shop to boost its visibility.

Sandy, theres the door
go inside and get the folders and start to explore
There are things in there that we can never let out
Every day and every night Ive been thinking about them
This stuff really worries me
it might screw up my whole legacy
Osamas lost, I had blown it, that will be revealed
Right wingers will go nuts as my façade is peeled
It is becoming such a hopeless situation...sometimes I don't know what I will do
I hope that you can turn things around...thats why I am counting on you, so
A little stack of memos is what I need
I know that you can do it, oh, yes indeed
Its really taking just a little chance
it wont be hard to stuff them down your pants
And just like Dr. Seus, we know he rocks
youll have fun hiding docs down in your socks
Id do this job myself, oh, if but I could
but I know it would be misunderstood
In you I have a lot of confidence..but if you get caught, Ill pay for your defense
Around you guards are bound to lurk
the mens room excuse
I think that should work
Outsides a trailer that will be a perfect drop zone
I am pretty certain youll be all alone
Some secret memos is what I need
I know that you can do it, oh, yes indeed
Its really taking just a little chance
it wont be hard to stuff them down your pants
And just like Dr. Seus, we know he rocks
youll have fun hiding docs down in your socks
Id do this job myself, oh, if but I could
but I know it would be misunderstood

Sandy, there is the door
its time that you go in and explore
If you do this, I wont ask for more
and Ill stay the one girls adore
At one time Mort could check his liberal tendencies, but as of late, he seems to be slipping into the moon bat realm.
Some are very funny
A better question would be " who enlisted the WSJ to bury the issue?"
Yeah, you can find a lot of those over at the Powerlineblog forum too. Hilarious!
Yes, the thread link I gave has my entries. Go have some singing fun. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1766916/posts
"Anyone who hired Richard Nixon to write an article about ethics in government would be laughed out of business."
That's the kind of shallow and flippant retort I've increasingly found among the great intellectuals here on FR.

Good catch. But Berger and Clinton are the real problem not the WSJ.
I miss Robert Bartley.
