There is talk among McCain camp that if McCain wins Prez, then Lott would be his Sec.Housing.

This is how McCain plans to keep key people supporting him and his ideas...holding out carrots that he will dole out when he is king, ur president.

They didn't have it on here in the Dallas area...because of the White Rock Marathon coverage.

BTW..on Wolfies show, Baker and Hamilton are getting a WEE bit testy.

Wolfie keeps reading quotes by Talabani and other Iraqi leaders that don't like the ISG report.

Baker said, "well they need to read if first.""....LOL

"I just hope the Republicans do not follow this pattern thinking they cannot win in 2008 so put forward a weak candidate to concentrate on 2012. This spells disaster and makes people even less likely to vote for a Republican in 2012."

I share your concern, because of the RNCs incomprehensible choices of congressional/gubernatorial candidates to concentrate on this year compared to those they left completely out in the cold. They seem to be preparing to bow to Hitlary in '08.

Lott's first act as Sec. of Housing would probably be to reimburse himself for what he has had to spend to fix his home, post Katrina....LOL

One of the reasons I am against professional politicians - some can be good but the majority loose touch with the real world.

I am one of those who is against our Parliament holding less debates at night and middle of the night sessions. When this was a regular occurrence it allowed an MP to be involved with business during the day and then come to the house at night. IMHO it was never meant to be your main form of income but a service to your country that you either conducted whilst earning your main income elsewhere or after you had had a successful career elsewhere.

My wife is 43, and for the last 5 years, I've had to watch her suffer from hip pain. Now, in a few months, maybe I'll get to dance with my wife again...

Careful there. Stoli and Ludes is not a safe combination...

Of course, if taking a "Socrates' cocktail" (as we used to call it on the ambulance) is your intent because watching these folks is that depressing, I guess it's not a bad way to go...

Pelosi says her Congress will be the most ETHICAL, yet Wm. Jefferson was re-elected last night.

Did you see that Reid called for a closed senatorial session to start the next congress...and McDonnell agreed to it. Open government, right!

Interesting that you consider the Economist to be a right wing publication. I have been a subscriber for 12 years and a regular reader for much longer than that. I found them to be left of center using the American political spectrum as my measure.

I suspect the UK will pull out well before the US. Hasn't Blair set a date or withdrawal schedule from Iraq? I know the UK has announced it is pulling out some of its troops in the near future.

I noticed that they were very testy with Iraq's reaction. One thing that really bothered me though, and is indicative of the ego's behind these commissioners, is that Hamilton said, that if they don't work for their national unity, we will leave and we will leave soon. How dare he usurp the Presidential power of Foreign POlicy...what an arrogant jerk. Rather than discuss Iraqi's concerns about their report, they just trash the Iraqi leadership. Shameful stuff by both of them.

I would hardly say the Stone Age Press' war on America is harmless, look at their circulation rates and see who they are harming. Their extinction will be a boon to Freedom of the Press.

Thanks for the well stated summary, the two of you. One BIG thing you left out, because it hasn't been considered in depth is the effect of the Oil-for-Food corruption.

At some point near from 2002, Sadsam was going to trap some of those UN and French and German biggies (and yes, in the US too) well enough and tightly enough to be able to throw off the sanctions and quicklly ramp up the nuke program.

I think our election cycle for President may shake down something like this.

IMHO there will be a huge effort to nominate a conservative candidate for President. Since this fact is already well know one or several will probably be in the limelight before long.Ronald Reagan II he will get the nomination and it probably won't even be close.

If on the other hand we haven't, there will be a huge struggle between those who want "to win" with a candidate who can win, vs. those who want a Conservative Candidate at any cost.

Just a guess. I have no idea how it will finally shake out.

Did anyone catch the commercial I heard (but did not see) on FNS?

It was successive women and children saying that they had watched people/family die, and that they were still homeless/hurting etc.

Then at the end, "We are still here. Come help us."

Not, "please help" or something. It was a damn directive, not a plea. What was it? Katrina? Darfur? It didn't say in the audio I was listening to, musta been on the screen.

It was the most arrogant condescending demand I've ever heard. Like Sally Struthers waterboarding someone to cough up UNICEF pennies. WTH?
