Someone will step forward. We're in a war, there has to be someone out there strong enough to lead us to victory and not surrender the country to the Islamofacists.
It's really too early for anyone who seriously wants to be considered to throw their hat into the ring (other then the ones we have known about for years). If Rummy wasn't 78 I'd be clammoring for him to step forward. :o)

I switched to CNN to avoid the power player. There is an hysterical woman on masquerading as a man named Aravosis losing his panties over Mary Cheney having a baby.

Did you notice that when Republicans are in minority, they keep repeating minority leader or minority whip several times. When democrats were in minority, it was senate democratic leader or senate democratic whip. Even Fox does the same on this.

"I hope Snerdly was watching 7-7:45 today. "
I wish you people would understand that there are FOUR (4) times zones in the continental US alone. When you make an obtuse comment regarding media that spans 4 zones on over 300 channels and ask that someone watch an unknown channel in some unknown zone, the message is TOTALLY WORTHLESS!

Memories are short it appears.
My take is countries like Syria, Saudi Arabia and others in the area are constantly going to throw in or gravitate to perceived power centers.
If Iran is perceived to be a power center they will go there, it it's us they will go there, if it's the Russians then there, In the Saudis case they may try and buy off everyone.
I think they are more interested in preserving their way of life, and power, than ideology.
IT pretty much a matter of he who has the biggest guns rules.

I am watching Fox News Sunday. I am impressed with one thing. None of these people have the slightest idea of what a combat area is like.
MY DEROS from RVN was 17 May 1969. One of the few things useful I learned is that "out in the field" the only rules you have are the ones you bring.
Iraq has a plethora of men of military age, unmarried who have no jobs. Besides that there ancient and recent scores to settle and as usual in a combat theater rape, looting, murder and kidnapping are accouterments of war. About all our military can really do is try to set standards and try to avoid joining in on revenge seeking.
This will all sort out. By the way only two non-Moslem powers ever took Baghdad--the US and the Mongols. The Mongols finally pacified the country with extraordinary effort but left as soon as they could. I imagine we will also pacify the country in some way and leave as soon as we can. It is going to take time to do this. Most there want order but only after they get their licks in. I pray for our young men and women and their Iraqi supporters every night. I am sure others are doing so as well.

Levin also kept saying something that makes me SO mad when I hear people emphasize it...
That we CAN'T go along with McCain's plan to add troops, because we do NOT have any more troops.
For some reason, call me crazy, but announcing to the world that we are basically troopless....is NOT a good idea.

Schieffer's last word is about how the congress is going to work 5 days a week, instead of just three. At least his remarks included reactions by both democrats and republicans regarding this new work schedule. He then concludes with the Foley findings, but doesn't seem to bother to mention that Rahm Emanual knew and took it to the press rather than the ethics committee. Oh so typical of Bob; he just can never bring himself to really criticize the democrats.

Lott, now 65 years old, is beginning his 33rd YEAR in Congress. There oughta be a law that anyone elected to Congress for more than 2 terms should have to have a job in something else just to keep current on the rest of Americans' lives.

It reminds me a bit of the Major government in Britain. No one expected them to win the General Election - things were even being said in local party headquarters along the lines we do not stand a chance of winning so do not want to put a better candidate in as leader. They had thrown the towel in and were preparing for the next election when a better candidate was to be chosen.
How wrong they were; Major got elected and then wrecked the Tory Party, scandal after scandal appeared and he was an ineffectual and weak leader which has caused the last 9 years of socialist government.
I just hope the Republicans do not follow this pattern thinking they cannot win in 2008 so put forward a weak candidate to concentrate on 2012. This spells disaster and makes people even less likely to vote for a Republican in 2012.
