Count Me In The Guiliani Camp (Debbie Schlussel: He Has The Cojones TO Fight Islamofascism Alert)
Debbie Schlussel.com ^ | 08/15/2006 | Debbie Schlussel

Every day, I'm asked whom I'm supporting for President in 2008. I've looked over the potential candidates, and on the Republican side, I believe the best, by far, is Rudy Giuliani, who took the first step toward a run, yesterday, with an exploratory committee.

(On the Democratic side, the best guy who's been talked about as a Presidential contender is Senator Evan Bayh from Indiana, who truly understands the Islamic threat and is a more moderate Democrat--which is why he'll never get the nomination.)

Yes, I'm pro-life and against gay rights, where Giuliani shares neither of my views on these issues. But, to me, the terrorism issue is far more important, #1 on the list. Right now, we have a President who is pro-life, against gay rights, and pretends to be the "Counterterrorism Prez." But, actually, he's done nothing substantive on any of these issues.

Rudy Giuliani: Then-NYC Mayor Had Guts to Stop Yasser Arafat's Stateside Escapades

So, I'll take the guy who I know will have the guts to do what Bush does not. I believe Giuliani is that man. He's proven that time and again, whether it was when he told terror-supporting Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal to take his $10 million and shove it (right after 9/11) or when he severely restricted Yasser Arafat's travel in New York (kicking him out of a concert).

A man who will do those things vs. Bush PC on Islam is the man we need to run this country. He's probably also the man who can handle the illegal alien problem and actually see to it that something is done about it. Not sure on his position on guest workers, but we'll soon enough find out.

It will be a difficult matter for a pro-choice, pro-gay rights candidate (and, again, I oppose Giuliani on these issues) to get the GOP nomination. We'll see.

So for those who want to know who I'm supporting for Prez, I say, "Viva Rudy." America's Mayor has what it takes to be America's President.

Gutsy Giuliani Tells Saudi Prince Alwaleed Where to Go

I'll ask this question for about the millionth time here on FreeRepublic . . .

What evidence do you have that Rudy Giuliani would be any more effective at "protecting America" than anyone else in the Republican Party -- or in either party, for that matter?

My second question is: In light of Rudy Giuliani's well-documented radical leftist track record while he was mayor of New York City, why would you ever hold him up as an ideal candidate based on an unsubstantiated opinion about how well he'd do on this issue?

"I guess you don't understand what Christan Conservatism means? We're on the verge of divorcing the GOP because we should not have to be asked to sacrifice a fundamental belief of pro-life because of the "lesser of two evils" game. We just won't vote if that's the game. Rudy maybe a nice guy but pro-abortion is one hurdle that Christan Conservatives will have a hard time leaping over."

I don't give a damn about religion so why is this a problem? As far as I am concerned the "Christian Right" can form their own party. Our nation was not founded on these principles. Our founders were mostly Diests or atheists. What a person chooses to believe is their own business. I just don't want it crammed down my throat. And if this is so important to Christian fundamentalists, then "God" will find a way to speak to him as the leader of the most important and powerful nation on earth.

Good article. Schlussel makes some valid points.

Right now, we have a President who is pro-life, against gay rights, and pretends to be the "Counterterrorism Prez." But, actually, he's done nothing substantive on any of these issues.

So Bush has done nothing on terrorism? As critical as I am, I would never say that. This broad needs to buy a clue.

Not surprised the Rudy camp is pushing so hard. They know that unless they build up momentum now, the conservative base will spike them as Rudy's liberal views and messy personal life become known. Either way, I don't think it helps them. The conservative base won't vote for him and the GOP can't win without them.

Because he is a proven leader who do what is required to protect America. Without our freedom and life, we will not have anything else to protect as the Islamonazis have sworn to wipe western civilization off the map. I want a no-nonsense realist who will do what is required. Giuliani is that man. This is a no-brainer.

Listen, as a conservative I agree with you a conservative would definitely be preferable. At the same time in the absence of one, I am not insisting on 100% ideological purity. If the candidate will keep the country safe, appoint conservative judges, respect that status quo on social issues, and so forth, he might be grudingly tolerable. But an outright liberal in the presence or absence of danger would never cross my mind to entertain. That's why we're conservatives. To clarify, I can entertain a compromise but not completely abandoning our principles. Its not worth it.

I think its because of his forth-rightness and candor on national security.

It's easy to be "forthright" and have plenty of "candor" on any issue when you aren't serving in public office (see Rudy's predecessor Ed Koch for perfect evidence of this).

One major advantage Rudy has is that by the time the 2008 election rolls around he'll have been out of public office for seven years.

But one huge disadvantage for him is that by the time the 2008 election rolls around he'll have been out of public office for seven years.

Well if the GOP is so hamstrung by these concerns then perhaps we need a new party that harkens back to the principles of our founders. The Republicans weren't even formed until 1856. Maybe the party has run its course if these anti-Giuliani types can't come to grip with reality. I still believe they must have this secret desire to see Hillary become president. Remember what happened in 1992. They voted for Perot and got Clinton. Talk about cutting off their nose to spite their face. Well, they might be about to do it again. No thank you. I'm having none of it.

Please cite me one specific example from his stellar track record where Rudy Giuliani did anything to "protect us from Islamonazis."

The issue of national security will be #1 in 2008.

Obviously not. Otherwise, the Dims simply could not have won. After they force a pullout (or the Baker Plan is implemented), there will be almost no serious talk about terrorism unless the terrorists are stupid enough to attack us again.

I think the Dims have quietly convinced the terrorists to concentrate on their impending victory in Europe and Britain so they'll leave us alone as long as Condi continues to destroy Israel's security for them.

I don't like Giuliani much. But the only candidate I'll refuse to vote for is McCain.

The only issue that matters to me is Islam Terrorism.
Which includes this issue: Strong Military. We need space-based missile defense.

Until these "Islamonazis" manage to kill off 45+ million Americans over a 30-year period, you don't really have a point. When you realize that the U.S. death toll on 9/11 -- an attack against this country of historic proportions -- didn't even exceed the average daily death toll in the abortion clinics of this nation, you'll understand why most of us "social conservatives" aren't buying the nonsense that half-@ssed conservatives are pushing in the Republican Party.

I've already made up my mind because: 1) I know Rudy's political views, and 2) I know you can't.

"As far as I am concerned the "Christian Right" can form their own party"

we already have, it's called the GOP but if the RINOs want to claim the name so be it, we'll give them the name and stay at home. You are right that God will speak to him but if he sticks with his pro-abortion stance then he must have took his advise from the wrong "God".
Good luck getting Rudy elected without Christan Conservatives.

Yes for his performance on 9/11. But, primarily for his escorting Y. Arafat out of the Met and back to his host embassy. Rudy will not allow terrorists on the Streets of his city; he won't tolerate them on the streets of the US.
