Funny---we both said unflattering w/o knowing the other had already said it......yes, you posit the possibility of a man who "isn't serious about running for the White House", (while I'm sure you know since it has been in the news in the last few days that he has already done the prelim paperwork to make himself a candidate), but I guess your implication is that as someone with that frenetic a post-9/11 business profile, and his thin skin ( his habit is to dish it out, not to take it), Giuliani might sense the media honeymoon is over as soon as anyone brings up ANYTHING about his divorces, his unsavory business dealings, etc. I mean, Terry McAuliffe could get away with Global Crossing by saying disingenuously, "What, is it illegal to make a profit?" ,but Giuliani might not be accorded so much wiggle-room. OTOH, it's hard for me to figure just how his candidacy would sit with the MSM, but I'm sure the perception of just that would determine whether he becomes a "serious candidate" or not.

I've speculated that Rudy's "candidacy" is nothing more than: 1) a way to inflate his asking price on the speaking circuit (a prospective presidential candidate is worth far more than some guy from New York City who hasn't been in public office for five years); and 2) a mechanism for getting some of his cronies employed at the expense of the national Republican Party.

I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,” he responded. ANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES (November 14, 2006)

RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.

KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.

GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.

KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.

JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.

KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.

GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.

Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY

Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.

I would hope that Rudy's two excellent acts vs. terrorists and terrorist-enablers/funders like the Saudi prince and Arafat would not be the LAST time he would do something like that, and was more than just momentary grandstanding. DON'T assume he would do exactly what WE would or WE would want him to in regards militant Islamists. Before I could underwrite Rudy I would need VOWS that he would act swiftly and decisively against the entrenched Islamic propagandists here, like CAIR. It is ESSENTIAL that the right atmosphere be put into place to make these guys sweat, and eventually LEAVE!! We don't need to dialogue with these phony troublemakers, who we ALL know are UP TO NO GOOD here. We don't need to deal with their made-up stories of "discrimination" against Muslims. We need them OUT, or so neutralized and ridiculed they will have no choice but leave on their own. I am SICK of them. If no Republican candidate has the cojones to even address the issue of CAIR, he has lost my vote. BUT THE ISSUE NEEDS TO BE PUT TO HIM.
